Power Supply Problems

Berty

Question

Hi,

Im having trouble with the power supply in one of my cabs. I think it is stuffed as it is failing to provide enough current for some of my more power hungry pcb's.

Im trying to find a relatively powerful (150watt +) arcade psu that has got adjustable 5v AND 12v lines.

The problem with my current psu is that if i turn it up, the 5v line only goes up by like 5% while the 12v goes up around 20%, so by the time my 5v is reading 5.3, my 12v begins to read around 13v -See my problem?

Anyway, links to retailers that have one locally would be great, or if you have one in new condition or excellent used condition then i might be interested.

i might movethis post over to the buying and selling forums if there is no work around for my old psu)

Ive already got an ATX psu powering one of my boards (ghetto, ghetto, ghetto), but it still doesnt provide the flexibility that i need (i.e. trimmable pots). The trouble is that some componants require less power then others, therefor i need the trimable pots.

Anywayz, i have *seemed* to have solved the problem atm. My current psu is churning out 16v on the 12v line and 8v on the 5v line.

just remembered,

the reason why i need a regular arcade psu is for the frame grounding option they have. When i use a beef cake board like the naomi network system, it causes terrible interference with the screen when using a regular atx psu. But if i power it through the cab's psu and add 3.3v from elsewhere then i dont get the horrible interference because of the common ground.
