Yep, another intro thread

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, have been reading the AA site a fair bit for a few weeks now so here is my intro thread. I'm pretty crazy for the arcade machines these days, playing and building/fixing a bit lately.

Currently have two cabinets, one upright horizontal, one tabletop vertical.

The upright is a LAI 26inch 4 player, the ones typically used for simpsons/TMNT. Got it around 8 years ago as a non worker pretty cheap with a Puzzle Bobble 2 cart on a Taito F3 mobo. Screen would glow, but no action from anywhere else, so the guts were ripped out and a MAME box put in. Monitor works great and has been a great cab for many years.

Recently I have been reading alot about arcade PCBs and repairing them so I rewired the cab back to JAMMA and got stuck into getting the Puzzle Bobble working. The cab voltages were quite low, +5v was +4.2v and 12v was less than 11v. I adjusted the +5, plugged it all in and it worked perfect first go! No idea why it wasn't working originally, but sucks to be the seller.

The tabletop was bought with no boards and a dead monitor about 5 years ago, so it was gutted and MAMEed aswell with a 15inch comp monitor. The buttons were the crap 70s style ones so they were chucked and new ones put in and it cleaned up quite nice.

Anyways, enough crap, lets get to the pics. Everyone loves pics.

- The Green Machine as it is known.

- Originally had a generic CP covering this TMNT one, but curiosity got the better of me and I had to remove it to see what was underneath. Was obviously a TMNT once, wiring suggests this too. Pissed I drilled extra button holes through it now.

- Testing the PB2. Yes, that mess of wires actually works.

- Had a hard life on the outside, appears to have been broken into and repaired (kind of). Apart from this damage, the cab really is in great condition.

- The tabletop, also in quite good original condition, almost no surface rust on those legs.

- Just needs a glass top to keep the dust out, the seller did include the broken glass pieces though.

- Fitted out with the MAME gear, not much room in there. 15inch crt has about 5mm clearance at the base.

- Anyone see a company name there? Obviously from Japan, anyone have any other info on these cabs?

- This cabs Aussie duties included running a Logitec bootleg of Space Invaders. The tag on the coinbox keys also says 'Frogger' so who knows what else.

- My glorious keyboard hack. I-PACs are for chumps!

Hoped you liked all that, please comment and let me know if you want more pics or info.

Kane.
