Apple Intel based

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Anyone got an older model Intel based Mac, maybe a mini or similar? I need it to develop iPhone apps. Been looking online and the only guy selling Mac Mini Intels seems to be a commercial business and the prices seem to be a tad inflated and the units stripped to the bare bones.

Cheers,

James

metal, only the new mac mini's have intels in them. If you really want, look up a guide for makign a intel based hackintosh. Just buy OSX officialy if you are worried about legality. But really, the mac minis are preety cheap. If you know someone who is in uni or is a teacher, get them to check on the apple store to see if they get a discount.

hey mate,

unfortunatly the hackintoshes don't cut it, the iphone ide/sdk gets errors, been tried by others and unfortuantly doesn't work.

There are mini macs with intel chip sets going for sale second hand, but here in oz seems to be mainly by a couple of semi-comercial people on ebay. as you can imagine they rip em back to basics and sell em with bugger all stuff. even still they go for far too much.

I've seen some going in the uk for bugger all (say around 250 aussie wise) but trying to find someone willing to ship to australia is bloody hard. Would almost be worth it to import em and flog em here on ebay, considering how much they go for.

Well I've also just found out that apparently you can get it to work on the G4, I'm still researching it, trying to find someone who has successfuly profiled an app running on an iPhone from a G4. So if anyone has a G4 laying around, I'm interested in that as well.

:)

Can a Admin or similar change the title to say that any type of G4 based on Intel based mini Mac is what I'm looking for please?

if they can get it running on the old macs, even the old mac books i want it then :P will steal my mum's old mac book. The mac mini's running intel chipsets only just came out recently if i remeber. The previous versions were still the old power pc chipsets. How expensive are they asking for second hand? and i dont know how they could really strip back a mac mini that much, unless its taking out the gpu and swapping the ram

Yeah, they rip the ram out if its a decent size and leave it at 256 or 512. also they take out airport and a couple of other things from what i can figure out. Seem to be a lot of low speced items going far to cheap from the same sellers, when yuo compare for how much they go in the UK :(

Yeah the Power PC ones may do the job. you need 1gig of ram, but i still havn't got proof that someone can profile an app on a iPhone from a G4, that may be the problem. but seems you can install the sdk/dev tools and develop.

yea, i saw that. I think im just gonna get a mac mini, i mean i can get em for $950 thanks to uni discount and 1 gig of ram will be enough to code em and i will have my iphone to test them on.

Nice, that uni discount sounds very nice. I know a couple of teachers, may ask one of them to get one for me. :)
