XP welcome screen & MaLa config

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Im starting a build soon, and am getting the PC side of things set up before i build the actual cabinet.

I have XP running, using MaLa as a front end. It all works well.

I have changed the XP boot screen to a MAME logo. Now i want to either remove the "Welcome" screen or modify it too. Anyone know how i can do either? The PC only has 1 user account, and needs no password.

Secondly, in MaLa when you press Esc, it quits the current game and returns the the main menu. Does this mean i need to wire up another button that will press the Esc key so i can quit games? How does everyone else quit games?

I will put up a thread with my worklog when the real work starts :)

Cheers.

I've always wired up a separate button to close a game, and the frontend. :)

One of the button 7 or 8's will do the job.

Sweet, thanks dungbeetle. That looks perfect.

AdamC, that sounds like what i have to do. ATM i press Esc, and MAME quits, then press Esc again, and MaLa prompts to quit, then i press "Player 1 Start" and it quits. Looks like ill need an Esc button :)

One last thing. Can i set up 1 button that will press both player 1 and player 2 "Insert Coin"? I havent ordered enough buttons to have an extra one :)

Wicked I actuall have Gamex, but it lags on my 3G hz PC, so I may need a faster Mame machine

Runs fine on my 3Ghz machine but it's very picky about video drivers. I had to install older drivers. If you want I can boot up my cab and find out what version it's using. From memory it's running an older version of Catalyst so it's an ATI card.

To remove welcome screen

You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer is not part of a domain.

1. Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2.

2. Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer check box.

3. Click Apply.

4. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.

5. Click OK again and you're all done.

Hi mate in addition to logging on the computer automatically you will need to do this to remove the welcome screen as it may still show up.

You can do this as well if you want to...

1) Click on Start

2) Click on Control Panel

3) Double-click on User Accounts

4) Click on "Change the way users log on or off"

5) Uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen" (note: this will also disable "Fast User Switching")

6) Click on Apply Options

7) Close the User Accounts window and the Control Panel

8) The next time you reboot your computer, the classic login prompt will be used
