Hi guys,

I've been planning updating to a 360 since they where launched, but always something else to spend cash on.

Anyway, the time has come. I need to know about flashing the DVD and what this will allow me to do.

1. I have about 60 back up copies of old xbox(original model) games and would like to be able to play them on the 360, is this possible?

2. I run XBMC on my original chipped xbox, can I run XBMC on the 360?

3. if anyone can give me a run down of how they utilize their 360 for anything other than store purchased games.

Thanks,

Huds

anyone got a quick guide on to update the DVD drive firmware?

go to http://www.xbox-scene.com and check out some tutorials.

You'll need about $130 bucks of gear to do it easily and well (a specific SATA chipset card, a special little PCB with a probe) or you can do it on the cheap but it's a bit more risky.

I mod consoles on the side (http://www.meltonmods.com) and my recommendation would be to pay someone $50 to do it unless you are brave enough to take the risk.

i've check xboxscene. $50 is money well spent i think. do i pull the box apart and send the DVD drive or just send the whole kit?

A special tool is needed to open the Xbox360 easily and without scratching the crap out of it. I would expect most modders would prefer you to send the whole shebang. (less controllers/power brick/cables/etc.)

After you have modded the 360 there is no more Online right? ever again even with non backedup games right...

No it doesn't affect online at all. My son has been using his for 12 months now.....aside from 2 returns....pieces of shit <_<

Nope your thinking of the original xbox which wrote files to the HDD so was easily detected.

The mod for the 360 is a DVD firmware mod only so at this stage is not detected. My son plays online all the time with this backed up games.

I was wondering about that....

I managed to flash a 120gb SATA HDD I bought as an upgrade (to replace my 360 20Gb) and was thinking of flashing my 360 DVD drive next... but using XBL all the time I didn't want to get booted.

What board do you use Dave? The Maximus 360 Xtractor?

So the noob question everyone asks, how often does the iXtreme firmware get banned?

The correct answer... Only Bill Gates knows.

Seriously, Micro$oft could know NOW everytime a modified '360 is turned on... even with the latest iXtreme firmware. You live in hope that they can't tell, but they are the only ones who know for sure.

If Live means that much to you, stay unmodded, or be prepared to fork out for a new '360 if they ban you.

Have you had many customers or heard of others getting banned?

Quite a few people were banned in the first round of bannings about eighteen months ago. Not so many people are owning up to being banned nowadays.

Micro$oft tend to roll out bannings in a big hit rather than piecemeal. One recent one was when Halo3 was released.
