my cocktail cab with lcd has a snag

Mr Pubstuff

Question

not a bbq snag, but a pain in the ass snag.

im not sure if this prob doesnt lay in the computer section of the forum but here we go.

i got a cocktail cab from relik. got a 48 in 1 from gamedude. got a pc power supply out of an old p1 or p2 lying around, got some good advice and the confidence to do it all myself from crafty, got a 17" lcd screen and got it all working very nicely apart from breaking a microswitch but thats not the issue, its when i power it up thats where it goes wrong.

it works beaut if i manually power on the monitor once i turn the cabinet power on, but when i turn off the machine, the monitor wont come back on automatically like it did when it was on the pc. if it goes to sleep or the cab turned off it stays off and i would of course like it to boot back up when it gets a signal from the board and not have to open the lid each time to manually click the monitor switch (cos that aint gonna happen).

what gives?

is there anything i can do apart from get a new 17" lcd which may do the same thing or have i found out something that everyone already knows about 48 in 1 boards or lcd's on jamma boards?

its a benq FP71E+ monitor

Bazz that sounds like a bummer. Mine comes on when the power kicks in on the power board, to the Speakers, 48 in 1 and screen.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it is worked before coming on then it still should???

that doesnt look or sound fun ....

Hmmm not too hard to do, honest :D

If you are stuck, this may be an easier/cheaper option than finding a new monitor that does power on restore.

Plenty of support here to install it too...

Cheers

Jacob

hey crafty, i dont quite know what you mean. when i turn on the power supply, i have to press the on button on the monitor. when i turn it off and back on, i again have to open the lid and turn on the power button as it doesnt power back up by itself.

i think jacob may be right that it is easier and cheaper to buy something like that little doodad, as i spent hours making custom brackets etc after decasing the monitor to fit in the original monitor supports.

it has taken the gloss off my first build, but its not as if its something ive done wrong or blown something up ..............

now heres an update to this.

the benq was just sitting around, so i thought on to ebay it goes, so i plugged it in to the laptop to get a piccy of it working and the laptop went to sleep and the benq went off as well and when the laptop resumed, it woke up the monitor again as it should again. i turned the laptop off and the screen shut down and woke up again on reboot also.

so..<_>

i thought is it because of this particular power supply in the arcade machine not tripping it as it should and auto booting etc. i plugged the benq back into the 48in1, ran its own power from an external power lead and it behaved as it should. on and off correctly, but when i took out the power plug and then plugged it back into the power supply inside the cabinet and off it stayed once it was turned off. wouldnt auto resume again.

so:sleep

would this be cos im using an older power supply (P1or 2 i guess )? id prefer not to have to buy another power supply to find the same thing happens? if i had another lying around id be laffing:laugh:

hey crafty, i may take you up on that option if my mate cant drop me one off to try in the next several days. i couldnt believe it worked ok as i had convinced myself that it was a dud for whatever reason (i googled it and that monitor has a heap of issues).

ta verily (got the new wii games also..)
