Olp Pin VS New Pin prices

Another question. Been checking some Commercial prices of pins (so i assume they are all in great condition), and the late 70's early 80's pins (which i love) are equal in price or more expensive than some 90's/newer pins. Why is this? Build quality? Brands ie. Williams/Bally/Stern vs SEGA/Data East?? Demand for older stuff?? more collectable?? or just overpriced??

Less old girls being imported, and less around in decent condition. Old pins have represented great value for money, but they have appreciated in value in recent times. Dunno if this trend will last, and anything you buy from a dealer will cost a premium, you expect it for what you get. Dont be fooled by prices of Kiss, Playboy etc premium priced pins. These things are for collectors, and do not reflect value for playability dollar. Bally gets good money, and the old SS Ballys are built well. There's alot of 90's lower-end games around, prices have dropped on them, and they are becoming really good value. Also I think alot of guys in their late 30's early 40's are looking back at their youth, and are desiring the pins from that era (a little way to re-capture those care-free times).

for me, a pin has to have ramps:laugh:

I stopped playing pins when things like ramps and overcrowded playfeilds came along. Good luck to the person who has to design the 'new' pin that EVERYBODY can enjoy, bummer pinball has a shakey future.:cry

i have played some old pins eg playboy, black hole, ect ect, they didnt hold my interest:boring:i remember as a kid playing pins with bells n chimes, who can forget those sounds:) i guess im to use to the speed, modes, speech, display animation, music of the late 80's90's pins that can get ya heart pumping(wot a rush) feeling:cool:

i think its a bang for buck thing, alot more bang in a late pin than an 70's pin,

on the other side of the coin 70's pin in good condition harder to find therefore worth maybe more money,, OMFG i did the supply/demand thing havnt i:( :lol

Works both ways. There has been a trend with collectors who owned a bunch of late model games and reverted back to older games.

I love them all from EM's to DMD. However, some DMD's bore the crap out of me. Make a shot, hear the same speech call again, watch the same crappy animation again, wait for the ball to get shot out of a VUK and return to the flipper. Rinse and repeat.

There is no right answer for what is the best era

all you can do is find the right era for you

I love Gottlieb EMs from the mid 70's

I like both Gottlieb and Bally machines from the start of SS

But I prefer pinball machines from 1978 to the WPC era

I don't like machines from WPC-95 much

But, everyone is entitled to their own favorites

So pins are generally priced on condition or availability no matter what era? Also, are 90's+ pins harder to maintain, can more go wrong with them? I'm guessing yes.

90's pins once gone over are very reliable. IMO older SS pins can be a little more more work, but not much. EMs never stop as long as you keep playing them. Stand-out titles fetch more money simply because more people want them.

Lotsa pin talk on AA today, be good to see this trend continue.

i love em all. but thinking about selling some dmds so i can fit some really old ones in as well. like cars i guess, there's something about a 68 SS camaro or mustang, i've seen a few oldies recently and can't help but wonder at their historys. also getting excited about non-pin games like em bowlers and gun games + seeburg 45 jukeboxes. i want to get a pitch and bat as well. ahh the nostalgia. must be getting really old now! never thought i'd end up interested in stuff that was made before i was born. lol

lol,, there can never just be 1 pin:lol can i ask what pins you thinking of?

Got a Gorgar on the way (a few weeks), and when my wallet recovers, i was thinking FirePower, Centaur, Quicksilver, but i like a lot of machines from that era, even the one i haven't played look great to me, i'd take any really, i'd also go for an EM. Stargate kind of catches my eye out of the newer ones, haven't played it though.

I think the pricing is due to supply and demand, like most things these days??:unsure

From the comments so far, seems that way. So, if we say old machines 'aren't cool', i (and people who love them) can grab them for a decent (cheaper) price??:lol

Cause i think OLD MACHINES ARE BORING AND NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Spread the word.

extraball- i think you are right:) its about how much you are willing to spend:cool:

and how much room you have :lol

Or how much you are willing to spend adding rooms to the house.... I am thinking of building a second level for bedrooms & make downstairs the arcade from hell :)

Back to the money thing....

I was joking, but am sure its true in many cases. I love old pins, and my 4 cost me less than 3k, and 3k doesnt get a really great 90's pin.
