CHROMING

Recommended Posts

I have just been quoted $400 (!) to have the legs re-chromed on my Taito cocktail.

Anyone know of a cheaper option? I would prefer to keep the original legs unless there are good repros available.

The company that provided the quote is Ultrachrome in Osborne Park and the guy I spoke to was an utter prick. From the minute he opened his mouth it was apparent he wasn't interested in my business.

I recently painted a set of cocktail legs with a rustoleum paint from bunnings. Took a little to prepare them for painting but see the results here........

Thank you all for your replies. GIBO, I think I'll give Vinci a call. Are they out your way? Also guys, how fine a grade of sandpaper would you go when rubbing them back?

Malaga from memory, start with a coarse grit say 240 and finish with a finer one,the chrome will hide most scratches

Start with a heavier wet and dry 800:unsure

I had some badly pitted chrome strips done with my HR ute and they dipped them in Nickel (I think) to fill the holes

Then spent days with 1200 grit wet and dry to get them ultra smooth, then they chromed them like a damn mirror.

Saves them doing the labour.

Nickel dipping first will fill the holes, pitting ;)

Just send it to Orange County Choppers.

They just put the crappy old parts into a box, unprepped, weld blobs hanging off everywhere.

5 Minutes later Mikey brings the box back and your parts come out of the box nice and shiny, smooth as silk, no weld blobs or blemishes, and it is all done for free via the magic of TV.

:lol

Yep seen that a few times but they also spend a lot of time in dumpsters and boxes trying to find WTF they were looking for. Also for the people in Sydney give Rob at Atarmon electroplaters a ring. Some members here have used his services. Sorry had to do a commercial free plug - mate of mine.
