Addams Family or Twilight Zone

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm looking to add another pin to the games room.

I currently own two Williams Machines - Whitewater and Indiana Jones.

After trolling the pinball sites reading reviews, and playing some games on the real pins (hard to get a feel as most (not all) of the pins I tested had some issues with them, such as not at the correct angle, weak flippers, etc. ) and a heap of games on pinmame I have narrowed the list to Addams Family and Twilight zone.

Twilight Zone seems more fun on pinmame than Addams Family but then again whitewater on pinmame sucks but I really love playing the real pin.

I hope to spend more time on the real machines prior to purchase however, I would appreciate any comments from people who have owned both pins or played both a lot, I'm particually interested in what to look for when buying them, common faults, and loves and hates of the machine.

thanks

They're both good machines, but TZ wins due to its unique features like Powerball, and magnetic flippers.

It's the second best pinball machine ever made.

Hi Gee,

only second best - what do you consider #1

I'd consider going with the theme I most liked growing up. Both Pinballs are in the top five of

most lists I've seen, so game play would be good.

Have kids, perfered watching the AF growing up? Get that one.

Perfered SciFi, easy choice.

I believe you'll find AF for a less then you'll get TZ.

An AF went for 3g less than 48 hours ago on this site.

My real opion, get both. (add smilie here)

Never could understand the fuss over TAF, tried to get into it many times and ever time walked away unsatisfied probably because I hate the theme.

Its really a personal preference, play the machines for yourself and make the derision based on that. You can always ask others opinions but everybody has their own tastes.

I own both machines.

TAF to me is a fun machine better suited to family and friends. Everyone around my age (40ish) remembers The Addams Family and can relate to the theme. My wife loves this pin and so does my 10 year old.

TZ is a more complex game better suited to the pinball player. I can spend a few hours playing TZ on my own. The wife rarely has a game, but thats ok with me :D

As other have suggested, best to try and play both games and make a personal decision if you can.

If I had to pick one over the other, I would pick TZ myself (And cop and ear full) :lol

Regards,

Johns-Arcade.

Can't go wrong with either machine....

TAF has a simpler rule set than TZ and I find that both machines will give you great games and not so great...eg, I can play TAF and get less than 10 mill, come back in 5 minutes (after swearing and cursing) and have a cracker of a game. Same with TZ....have owned a few TAF's but am still learning TZ....

I would get either, just wait for one in excellent condition for a fair price.

TZ is a players machine, the number of times its kicked my arse isn't funny.

TAF is more family friendly, not as deep.

Both machines come up all the time because of the numbers produced. Good ones come up rarely.

Either machine is a good choice :)

Two further thoughts...

1. TZ will retain your interest longer than TAF.

2. Personally, I would advise against getting both, as there are quite a few similarities between them.

If - no, when - you decide to get a second machine, get something by a different designer, or possibly even a different manufacturer.

For example, I love a quick blast on my Sega Starship Troopers, because it's such a different experience to a Pat Lawlor Williams pin.

Thanks for all the responses - will have to play both of them again when I get a chance.

To add to the confusion of what to buy next - played a theatre of magic the other day - I was really impressed. Now I've got 3 to consider.

I haven't noticed the similarities between TAF and TZ, I love both machines and they both feel very different to me. Perhaps that is because I am such a poor player :lol
