Playing Whitewater and restarts

acejas

Question

Just started this morning. Playing then all of a sudden does the testing and stuff.

Maybe related but everytime I turned the pinny on it would lose my scores so changed battery and now it doesnt do it

Maybe another thread but what the hell....my volume only goes down to 8...bit noisy at 4am in th emorning :D. Is that normnal or should I be able to go right down to zero?

Cheers

By saying it does the 'testing and stuff' does this mean it goes into the diagnostic / test menu?

Is there / or has there been battery damage on the MPU board?

IF its going into the test/diagnostics menu, this relates to the direct switches which bypass the matrix. I've just recently fixed this on my Getaway (same board I believe). From my research generally it can be an earth problem, so check for loose wires on the coin door, cherry switches and in and around the diagnostic switches (with machine turned off and unplugged).

Mine was related to batt damage, so if its this let me know and I will let you know how I fixed mine.

Sorry mat efor not being descriptive...was a late one lol. Yeah its like when you first turn the pinny on and it starts its testing ie the ROM version then starts for playing (NOT the test diagnostic menu)

Dont think mine is battery damage as it was just serviced and batteries were removed from their original position

I will look into the cherry switches

Ahh, OK so if you're playing a game, it resets fully as to what you see when you first power it on?

Hmm, OK probably not related to coin door / microswitches but could be related to a short somewhere....Just do a quick visual on coin door and under playfield to see if you have any obvious broken wires hanging out...

Is it happening at the same point in a game - ie every time a certain target / switch activates?

Has the machine been moved at all ? I would also check in the backboard - just to make sure no plugs have come loose or any screws dropped out and shorting...

BUT - most likely this would be the cause / repair for the issue:

The switches - may be errors or just switches that have not been activated for a few games. No biggy..

If you are able to take a picture of the area below where the batt's use to mount on the MPU (macro shot)...This will give us a better idea of whether there was batt damage prior to them being moved - as it is sometimes difficult to see

Had the same problem with my WH20-wire had come off one of the river targets and was shorting machine causing it to "reset" soldered it on and all good, so look at those targets very closely they are often hard to see a wire off use a torch. The other switch "big foot cave" will show a fault if it's not activated within 90 balls so just trip it with your finger if your flipper shots are crap:lol like mine..

Good luck

Peter

In one of the settings, there is "VOLUME OVERRIDE"

Set it to NO or OFF (can't remember which word used)

This caught me out a while ago, and a kind AA member pointed it out for me.

Cheers

Hi acejas,

Was talking to Ryan (LOTR4U) yesterday at Extra Ball's mini-meet and he is having a similar problem with his WH2O in that it is resetting a lot . He was dropping it off to Ken (SkyBeaux) for repair so might be interesting to see if the trouble you are having with yours is the same thing which is making his play up also.

1 of the connectors on the back board was burnt out a bit :( maybe causing the issue.
