alot of things... If all sprites are missing suspect the 2114 ram on the B board, If just the main character is missing only it may be ROM or any one of the IC on the B board most likely....

One trick you can try is piggy back a good IC on the board while its running, there is a reasonable chance you will get a result...

I had a similar problem on a Wonderboy board once, everything was great except WB himself was missing. Problem turned out to be a 74LS04 chip with a missing output. It could be anything tho - duff RAM, duff logic, broken track, or crappy ribbon connectors.

If the board is a 2 board stack then track damage is less likely as the fragile side of both boards are facing each other and out of harms way (mostly).

So remove and reseat all the ribbon cables, that can cure a lot of nasties, then I would probably suspect the logic chips.

If you have a logic probe it is easy to find ICs with missing (floating) pins. Beware that some ICs have the same gate 2, 4 or 6 times over and not all pins will be connected if not all the gates are used, look up the datasheet for a chip you find a missing pin on, if its an input pin then that's not necessarily a problem, unless the other input pins for that gate are active. If its an output pin then you may be onto something, a gate with no inputs should always have either be high or low on the output. If you find an output pin that is floating and it has a track going to it then you are certainly on the trail of a fault.

Unfortunately pins that are stuck high or low are not as obvious, you need to see what the inputs are doing before you can determine if the output should be doing something, and that's often quite hard to do.

Also check for very hot logic chips, hot hot, not just warm to the touch, if they are stinking hot they are almost certainly duff.

You may want to clarify that logic is usually 74series stuff NOT PAL's and GAL's and ram and roms ect... some of those items definatly get HOT!:evil

THIS WAS THE EASIEST FIX EVVVVEERRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was making me VERY mad so I had a simple solution that would bring me joy.

I cut the amp section from the PCB and removed the speaker from the cab and mounted them into my Axe.

Happy Camper now.
