What was the first SS machine you played?

Recommended Posts

If you are the same age as me (early 40?s), you will remember playing new EMs and the time that SS (solid state) machines became available

What was the first SS machine you played?

For me, the local corner store always had Gottlieb machines, the first SS they had was ?Sinbad?, I love everything about it, the sounds, the big blue displays

The local arcade though stocked Williams, so the first game there was ?Hot Tip?, I remember liking that it was digital, but hated the sounds, and thought that the orange displays were crummier than the big beautiful Gottlieb ones

Nugent, or Buck Rogers.....I can not remember which machine I put coin in first at the shop near highschool. The others in riding distance from my house were Dragon, Solar Ride, and Shark. First SS we owned (dad had a great collection back in those days) was Orbit 1.

The first ones I remember playing were Six Million $ Man and Harlem Globetrotters (both in the one arcade ) at Port Macquarie during Chrissy holidays.

Have recently just replaced some nostalgia with my latest purchase - a Lucky Seven ( the SS version ) .... :D:D:D

What were the first SS machines to be produced? (Wikipedia says Hot Tip. Another article says Spirit of 76.)

I seem to recall Flash or maybe Gorgar being the first one I encountered.

But if you can tell me the earliest machines I may remember whether I saw them first.

Those were the days, eh. 20 cent piece on the lockdown bar, waiting your turn.

Played heaps in my younger days but for some reason the one that sticks in my mind and I'd love one is "time warp" probally because of the bloody bannana flippers..Eltham roller skating rink must have made a fortune from me:)

I liked them-machines I've seen lately were changed to the regular style??
Yes, a decade ago I made it my personal mission to go around and remove the abomination of banana flippers from all the machines that had been afflicted with them, and replace them with perfectly normal flippers.

I was the pinball machines' version of Fred Hollows.

I remember working on pinballs at the Golden Bowl around 1983 with Amalgumated Amusements.

I remember LAI in Brunswick and all those Space Invader Uprights they had.

I remember operating a Hankin Empire Strikes Back at $20c a game and it made $300 a week.

I remember Moon Patrol and Galaga and Zaxxon Tables I operated.

I was 17 and i operated machines in the Hampton Hotel, later the Sandringham Hotel and Mentone Hotels.

I also remember LAI in Brunswick/Fitzroy North-I bought a couple of SS off them. Bought one off you too Wayne when you had a Auction at your Moorabbin Factory many years ago-cheap prices as well, we always bought our trailer:cool:
