SF4 console release

Recommended Posts

So I know all of you hardcore street fighter fans went out yesturday, as I did, and brought yourself a nice plastic wrapped copy of the console version of street fighter 4. So what's your impressions?

The 360's disgraceful d-pad aside, I think its the proverbial ducks nuts. However, I'm yet to play the arcade version, and would be interested to hear the thoughful comments of those lucky enough to have enjoyed both versions.

All reports are the console versions are arcade perfect.

I enjoyed the arcade quite a bit. Third Strike for me still remains a much better game, but it's still nice to see people playing competitive Street Fighter again, which is more important (particularly for a game that is made truly fun by human competition, and not computer AI).

I am probably going to pick it up, but have grave fears about the xbox DPADs. So then I considered getting a Hori etc. stick, but then you really need 2 (since most of play will be competitive against my housemates)

Then all of a sudden is $500 to have SF4 :(

How much are these Hori sticks you speak of? Do you have links? I still haven't found out how hard 360 controller hacks are,but I might have two of my control panels left in black? http://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php?t=20964&highlight=desktop+control+panels

mate, can you check and tentatively pencil me in for those 2 black ones if they exist?

I want to make my own, but have poor woodworking skills and no tools. But I have all the stick and buttons and electronics hoo ha to make it from the base frame

Sure thing mate. If you have sticks & buttons that'll save you money ( and save me time). I reckon chances are high I'll have two of these black boxes left. So you wouldn't need any control panel hacks either?

Do you have a preference of artwork shown in that thread? There's also the Chun Li style in this thread

I still haven't found out how hard 360 controller hacks are

They're very touchy. All-analogue controls means even the slightest bit of anything on the pad (grease, flux, anything) and you get random-arse signals all over the place.

It can be very frustrating at times. You'll get three or four in a row that are fine, and then one out of the blue that just won't work no matter what you do.

And due to the fact that Microsoft require licensing to make controllers (protected by encryption on the pads), nobody has made a reliable specifically hackable controller (like Cthulhu for PS3).

I fought with them when making my OHN sticks, and I fought with them again when fixing "arcade in a box" sticks a mate of mine bought from the US.

Remember Cthulhu won't work in XBox360.

The only hackable pads that work in 360 are genuine Microsoft or MadCatz. There are no unlicensed third party pads (again, due to Microsoft's encryption on controllers, stopping any unlicensed third party hardware - no generic USB pads!).

Cthulhu works perfectly in PS3, PC (Windows/Mac/Linux), and anything else that can take generic USB gamepads.

Well gints I'll keep you posted about the boxes. Also keep an eye on that thread I linked to because I'm already going to be hacking a 360 wifi controller for another member. We will see how it turns out.

I also have a wired 360 controller on my desk that I bought for the PC but the pc drivers are giving me the shits. I might end up hacking this for a 360 (corded) controller too.

Just a heads up that serious SF players will want wired controllers to reduce lag issues with wired units.

Casual players probably won't notice. The sorts of folks who are analysing frame data, however, will.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just wondering what others thought of the collectors edition box? Im kinda thinking the $160 wasn't really worth it.

I was a little dissapointed the way the anime movie was just thrown in with a little plastic case like it was a burnt copy or somthing, and the collectors hint/art book is lacking.....well..... pretty much any decent hints or art for that matter. The ryu and c.viper figures arn't really that impressive but a nice addition none the less.

On another note,LOVE the game and the X arcade tank stick has zero issues

Any thoughts?

3S is still a far superior game in every regard. SF4 is a step backwards. Plus being 3D, there's that extra frame lag on EVERYTHING, which slows the whole game right down.

With that said, it's bringing people back to competitive fighting games. So even though it's not the best SF game by far, I'll still play it just because there's a lot of competition out there at the moment.

I'm loving SFIV, gets me excited for future releases. Marvel vs Capcom 3 would be brilliant.

Never going to happen. Capcom's license to produce Marvel games expired some time ago. Since then it was given to EA, and I believe there's another developer/publisher who has it now. You can't just magically make games with someone else's characters without an active license.

"MvC3" basically was Tatsunoko vs Capcom, which is available on Japanese Wii (or on a PAL Wii with the homebrew channel and the region changer hack).

Marvel licencing is broken up into fighting, specific characters, franchises, etc. From what I heard the fighting licence was finished with EA after they failed to make a fighting game in a specific time period.

Rumours of Marvel vs Capcom 2 coming out on xbox live, if true would confirm they have the licence again.

yep as elvis said - mvc3 - never gonna happen.

marvel makes more money from the crappy licenced crap that ea sells, than mvc3 would ever take.

that said when is the pc version of SFIV due?

most stuff i've read points to may or june??

That says 26/6/2009.

It would only confirm they have the rights to re-release old IP, not that they have a license to create new IP.

It's like the Street Fighter EX series. The rights to that are owned by Arika, not Capcom. Arika and Capcom have since ceased all business dealings, but Arika could at any time release a "retro pack" of the same games on modern consoles without needing to ask for Capcom's permission. Who gets what money from said re-release is kept hush-hush, but Arika own the rights to the game even though they don't have a license to release new titles with Capcom-owned characters.

Long story short: MvC3 isn't going to happen. TvC is the current license, and both Capcom and Tatsunoko have said they were surprised at how popular TvC was, and are both interested in developing a sequel. For the short term, that's the direction of the "Capcom Vs" style games.

The downside to TvC of course is that it won't get official release outside of Japan, as the licenses for many of the characters in the game belong to totally different companies in the West. Damn shame, that.

I love it-I havn't been this excited about a SF release in a long time. Looks like its bringing people back to the series, which can never be a bad thing for SF and arcade games in general. Yeah its not as fast maybe as others, but it more than makes up for that in other areas. If your really concerned about realism you can always dress up as Ryu and punch a bouncer down at your local square in the face! :)
