what_the
Greetings all. I am currently stationed in Singapore for 3 months and just got to wondering if anyone on the forum has any experience with arcades over here? Ideally I am trying to find out feedback/locations etc. If you could let me know of any decent ones you came across in your travels that would be brilliant. Need to have me an arcade fix in a big way. I realise they may be your major chains that have mainly redemption machines etc ( jeez the asians love those things), but at least if it has a pin or two and some astros I would be happy. Don't like my chances of finding any older video game arcades over here, but if I do I will post pics. Cheers guys.

malcolmyoung91
Have you checked out the following thread? http://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php?t=12212&highlight=Singapore I posted some info on that thread about a year ago which may be of some help to you. I used to play pinballs extensively in Singapore between 1996 and about 2001, at various locations. But I would say that these days, most of those places would not have any pinball machines on site any more, and some of them wouldn't even be arcade parlours. It would be interesting to know where the 100+ pinball machines that were at these various places on the island ended up. I wouldn't have thought there'd be any collectors in Singapore, as most people live in HDB flats and they'd consider the machines take up too much room. li_gangyi
Hi, I'm Singaporean, and yes, limited pinballs nowadays. They take up too much room and not many people here play them (no good for the operator). Used to be a whole bunch of arcade operators, most of them died out, kids nowadays play more PC games I suppose. Some have a combination 1/2 LAN PC gaming and the major part an arcade centre. Zone X is now mostly filled with light gun games (Ghost Squad, Time Crisis and whatnot), Driving games (Initial D, Outrun, Mario), and fighting cabinets, with some top down shooters and side scrollers... If you're in the city area, you'd want to drop by the Zone X at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station (it's at the exit near Plaza Singapura), play a couple of games, and then check out the Plaza Singapura arcade on the top floor beside the movie theatres (This arcade is full of UFO catchers if you're into that kinda thing). You'll also want to drop by "Sunshine Plaza", beside Sim Lim Square, if you're into the anime figurine / mecha / models thing. This is within walking distance from Dhoby Ghaut. As for where the pins went, I think most of them were auctioned off and exported. If you are looking for spares (Arcade joysticks, buttons, coin op mechs and whatnot), I know of a place here that's pretty cheap, the local arcades use them for parts. malcolmyoung91
Pinballs in Singapore Out of interest, are those arcades at Parkway Parade shopping centre (I think it was on the top floor) and Jurong (near the MRT) still around? Both of these had an extensive range of pinballs in the late 1990's. Jurong especially - I reckon they had around 10-15 pinballs, although not all were in great working condition. But mt favourite was always the Timezone at Pasir Ris, as they had 5 pinballs (including World Cup, which I ended up purchasing last year as I had such great memories of playing it), and it was near where I worked and not far to drive during my lunch break. li_gangyi
Most of them are still around, however many of the pins have long been taken off the arcade floor...
