opm881
Hi. I have a couple of questions regarding the game cube. I bought one at Supanova a few years back for $50, back when the wii had just come out. I used it a little but without a mem card i couldnt do much. Searched a little bit but could never find a mem card. Few months later got my own computer and forgot about it. However, recently i found it again and was wondering a few things. First off, is it possible to hook a game cube up to a hdd so that i dont have to burn discs at all. Secondly, i cant remeber the exact size of the game cube, but, if i cant boot off a hdd and need to use dvds, can i simply try and expand the casing for the game cube or do i need to keep the top off/get a case designed to handle normal discs. Thirdly, whats a good modchip for the game cube.
dmworking247
I can only answer one of your questions as I'm in the market for my first GameCube myself... but the original GC's (chipped or not) wont fit a DVD, but there *ARE* ready-made replacement cases so that you can fit a full size DVD backup in there (once chipped). opm881
yea, i know the original gc casing wont fit a dvd, but i wasnt sure if say, you could cut into the case and make a new top half by modifying the original top half and just making the extended part with some sort of fiberglass or something similair if you get what i mean. dmworking247
I'll take the other one? Edit: To be fair this is opm881's thread so he should have first choice, but if he doesn't want it I'd like one? Also interested in GC games, especially if there's any Resident Evil, Picmin, or Mario (anything) in there?
Administrators Arcade King Posted February 12, 2009 Administrators Share Posted February 12, 2009 I've been chasing one of these case mods for ages, The cub just doesnt get used and those mini DVD's are a pain in the arse.
DKong
You can buy the small DVD's for the cube if you you don't want to mod your cube. Burn in a regular DVD burner I have the Qoob modchip in mine works great (from memory was one of the best). Was quite easy to install as well. Never heard of a HDD mod for the cube. Administrators Arcade King Posted February 12, 2009 Administrators Share Posted February 12, 2009 yeah I have the Qoob installed too, the mini DVD's are just expensive and some brands I found just didnt work. The case mod is a great idea.

dmworking247
Damn, I checked that other thread and followed the link to acegamestore, but they don't sell Qoob chips anymore (or the viper cases). Does anybody know where to get Qoob chips these days? Side note: http://www.acegamestore.com/products/xbox/ DuoX3 xbox modchips for $20 with free shipping. Damn! Nidzdotnet
I'm also looking at picking up a cheap GC. So you can fit a regular size hard drive and boot off that? Will that allow you to play all the games backed up off a HDD? Anyone got any more info on how this can be done? Cheers.
opm881
it appears you cant use a hdd. There was a group making an adaptor but they never released it, unfortunatly. You can however get a special mem card which uses a micro sd card and u can boot backups off that
