wingtipvortex
I never realised that Williams/Bally patented the hologram "in" a pinball machine. Apparently CFTBL is the only one ever done. http://www.txpinball.com/images/how2play/Bally_cftbl_US_Patent_Hologram_Pinball.pdf
MrMaloo
Jeez wingtip .... It's true . News is slow to get to Tassie !!!! Thought everyone new about the CFTBL holo but then again not everyone's into pins. Are you looking at buying one.If you are then the hologram should be bright green . They have a bad habit of going blue over time .

CFTBL isn't a horror theme as such, it's kinda like a cheesy 60s drive in theme with humour. Dracula on the other hand, well it's as dark as they come :)

Is there a reason no other pins from Bally/Williams used holograms, i like the idea of them.

mooncresta
well get fucking making them ;) Will you be making these at all Wayne,I have a CFTBL with a pretty much a non existent creature on my Holo. Your answer will pretty much tell me what to do with my 90% completed pin.
hamish_nz
Yes he owns the patent but not the Universal rights to reproduce the creature image. IPB has the current rights Thats why they have done the MB playfield and decals, creature holo & playfield
Ballypinball
Those rights expired last October ---------- Post added at 01:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:30 PM ---------- Will you be making these at all Wayne,I have a CFTBL with a pretty much a non existent creature on my Holo. I think a lcd replacement would be better

tnpshow
I think a lcd replacement would be better Hmm a proper animated Creature on a small TFT LCD. Now that would be a cool mod! Out of curiosity, what is the dimensions of the current Holo?
mooncresta
I have thought about the LCD mod with the lcd only coming on when multiball is started, its not hard to do, But you wont get the 3D effect. It looks like my creature will be for sale or sited now.
4_amusement_only
I love it when we are all speculating or discussing something and Wayne comes in with the final word..Sometimes if i know it is a Bally Pinball type discussion im scrolling down waiting for that usually short n sweet statement. Keep it up mate!

Ballypinball
Well the patents are licensed to the un named company to make replacement parts before i came along. Even though I own the patent and could license it out to anyone to use in a pinball, Universal still want their License fees to use the creature Image. So the un named company made a batch of holograms under license and doubt they will be made again, due to cost and license expiration. Like it or hate it, Universal hold the cards, complain to them. DKong
Bitching world this Pinball stuff, takes a hard nut to suss it, wish the games would flow but it it seems so political. Let the balls flow :)
spacies
Its all about the benjamins DK. Thats it! Nothing else but greedy pricks who would rather sit on their hands and watch it all die than, to share the love and keep the games alive. Some pinballs will die and/or/have become less desirable because of this. Makes no sense to me from a business point of view. Lets look at it like this: There were 7,841 CFTBL made. Lets say 2000 of those are in the dump (highly doubt it but I will put that in for arguements sake). Out of the 5841, left a third of them are in private hands now. That makes 1947 units owned by collectors. Half of those 1947 machines have faded holograms and half of those people again would like a replacement. So that gives you a production run of almost 500 holograms that you could probably sell tomorrow. If someone can't make a few dollars (or see the point of reproducing them) from a production run of 500 units then you can see where CFTBL is heading. If you sold them for 300aud that means a turnover of $150,000 and if you run on the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 business plan you should make a lazy 50k. It may not be worthwhile for a giant like Universal to worry about, but for someone living in the ass end of nowhere and Pinball is their business, then it makes you wonder, right? There is also an issue of, where is the creature statue? :unsure can't make a holo without the star.
Administrators Arcade King Posted February 13, 2009 Administrators Share Posted February 13, 2009 There's been some interesting ideas put forward like a mini LCD panel as a alternative.
spacies
I am pretty sure 17 years later that someone can reproduce the holos better and cheaper than back in 1992. Good point AK. If you could supply an LCD alternative then you are also in for a lazy profit.

Shock_And_Awe
I read that Classic Playfield Reproductions were making a hologram to suit the CFTBL. They were looking for ideas on an image they could create that didn't breach any copyrights. It would not have any part of the original Creature in the image but something like a scene that would be appropriate. http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.pinball/browse_thread/thread/1f6cb777299668c7/d5d11459664ddcef?q=creature+hologram+ideas&lnk=ol&
