Question

I recently bought a Golden axe board which had bad graphics. The game played with the scroll layers being scrambled, but the sprites could be seen behind. The game is a non suicide version of golden axe but with an 8751 MCU.
I replaced the motherboard with a known working system 16 motherboard. This fixed the scrolling problems.
Some problems remained on some sprites, for example when using magic.
Looking at the eeproms on the rom board it appeard that mpr12383 was just filled with zeros.
Replacing it with a 27C040 (double size of the original eeprom because I had no 27C020, duplicated the original rom content), fixed the problem.
The game is now fully playable with no bugs.
