NZ Copyright Infringment: Guilty Upon Accusation

Recommended Posts

At least it wasn't Australia this time (with crazy laws!)

"Next month, New Zealand is scheduled to implement Section 92 of the Copyright Amendment Act. The controversial act provides 'Guilt Upon Accusation,' which means that if a file-sharer is simply accused of copyright infringement he/she will be punished with summary Internet disconnection. Unlike most laws, this one has no appeal process and no punishment for false accusation, because they were removed after public consultation. The ISPs are up in arms and now artists are taking a stand for fair copyright."

geez. you know, sometimes when australia is going to do something really fucked up, like vote jo belke in as prime minister, or introduce isp filtering, i always console myself with the fact that i could always go and live in NZ.

Ahh to many FREEdoms on the internet and the governments all around the world dont like it .

People have to take a stand and not have the attitude that if it doesnt affect me it doesnt matter as it will affect us all in the end.

Interesting to see how different countrys' governments are trying to control the internet through their own emotive issues.

America and England use terrorism. Australia, because Australians are generally apathetic towards terrorism, use child pornography (implying that we are all potential kiddy porn artists), and now New Zealand paranoic about their entertainment industry.
