The "Post your TIP haul thread"

Recommended Posts

I'm doing some major cleanups & landscaping in time for Christmas which involves a lot of visits to the tip.

Today (from the tip shop) I bought a complete "Aura Interactor" (you might remember those from the Megadrive/Saturn days... it was apparently a noiseless subwoofer that straps to your back for 'feedback' on fighting/driving games etc). I figured I might incorporate it into a driving cabinet (seat) one day.

I also got an Osram 1000w studio spotlight with an inbuilt diffuser and cooling fan, and 'directional flaps', and it bloody works! (even the bulb), except the fan needs some lubrication (a bit sticky).

It looks roughly like this, except its a handheld version (has a kind of gun handle) which can also be tripod mounted.

Great for those professional ebay photos. :lol

Both of them for $5 total.

LOL

My lady just rang and said there are FREE arcade machines in the paper.

I just rang and scored one of them (the others were crap) and I stripped out a Hang On PCB, marquee and loom from another.

Check this out:

That cab has a 26" tube, new power supply and SNK twin slot.

Classic man, fucking classic!

What is a "tip shop"? :unsure

Matthew

Most tips (dumps) have an area where salvagable goods are recovered from the tip or donated 'pre dumping. You wander around, pick up something you want and say 'how much' to the guy(s), and they'll take one look at it and give you some abitrary price (which is great for electronics goods or things they would have no idea of its worth).

Unfortunately, scavaging from the tip itself isn't allowed anymore :( :( :( :(

When you goto the tip (Transfer station) There is a shop where the saff has seen stuff that is still good and then put a price on it.

Saves having to walk through all the shit. They have done it for you.

I have one of the Aura Interactor's. I ues it but stripping out the speaker from the backpack and putting it in the couch so every back on the movie you moved to. :D

Now it is just in a box in the shed. :(

Might have to get it out again.

:( Don't have a tip here, we've got a "waste processing center" or some other such funky name.......all the stuff gets dropped 12+ feet into a great big hole, no salvaging going on there, but you do get the satisfaction of seeing the stuff you throw in break :)

Heh I did that with 2 of them in the couch.

Was classic seeing everyone freak out the 1st time I fired up a movie :lol

Now mine are in a box (the couch long gone after moving) and I don't know what to do with them...

Never had a good tip score - but I did save a box of oddball LP's from going to the tip a few years ago...

Cheers

Jacob

Yeah, that is fun in a way.

We threw 20+ tellies into that hole - there is even giant metal teeth in there crunching up stuff!

Of course, now I know those TVs had excellent tubes for arcade setups :(

I went back with another load this afternoon and came out with a $2 pair of amplified pC speakers like a set I already have, they kick ass. It just needs a new RCA connector soldered onto the lead.

I had my eye (from the first visit) on a smashed up electric scooter (ie a roadworthy one that can reach 50kmh). It had the spedo, brake, motor, rear wheel/cog, etc on it. I was going to go back and get it, then weld together a go-kart frame from scratch so that I could have a fast go-kart complete with headlight and speedo. :lol

Alas, when I returned the brake, speedo and rear cog had been removed, so I left it.

Same here, you just drive up a ramp, back your trailer up and shove your waste over the side into a huge steel skip. Nothing that hit the bottom would be salvageable.

Would love it if they did the salvage shop here though :) who knows what I could fill by already bulging shed with :) :)
