dalendie

Question

Mame or Mameui??? I do NOT know, although, i have managed to get mameui working and cant for the life of me get mame to work....

So what is the major difference 'features' wise between the two?

do they do the same stuff?

can i run the same games?

disadvantages & advantages would be greatly appreciated.

cheers to anyone who takes the time respond :)

The only thing is that you are stuck with a HORIZONTAL screen when you do this, and it is always going to look like it's running under windows with the _ [] and the X at the top right.

I like Gamelauncher which runs full screen, can be rotated for vertical cabinets, cocktail cabinets, etc. and does not require ANY mouse input to drive it.

It's a bitch to configure though, and there are ones out now that have sparkly nice graphics and stuff, Game Launcher is meat and potatos, but it works well.

The offer is still there... :D

Major differences - MAME is the command line version (like running on the old DOS based stuff), MAME32 (UI) is the Windows version

Can they do the same stuff? - Yes

Can I run the same Games - Yes

Setting up MAME32 on your PC is way easier as you found out. If you don't care that it looks like Windows then your set.

You can get cool front ends (so it doesn't look like windows) such as Atomic FE which are easy to set up. There's heaps of others too such as GameEx. You just need to find one you like.

On my PC I run MAME32 because I could care less how it looks and on my MAME arcade cab I run Atomic FE (upgrading to Game EX sooner or later) :D

you can still use mame32 with any frontend, in fact mame is much easier to set up with UI

Yes, well brought up.

A lot of people don't realise this. MAMEUI (aka MAME32) can take command-line input from most frontends. There's no performance penalty or feature differences between standard MAME and MAMEUI (other than the GUIs of course).

If you find MAME too difficult to set up, do the config in MAMEUI and use it with our frontend instead. Alternatively you can use MAMEUI's config files for standard MAME (again, there's no performance benefit doing so and it's an extra step, but it's up to you).

I'm actually using Maximus Arcade as the frontend (yes I know you have to buy it - so some people won't even consider it), and using it to load MameUI for mame games. The games load without MAMEUIs frontend being displayed. Add a good set of snapshots and emumovies Videosnaps and you have a nice frontend with animations of the games to select from.

I use MAMEUI to set up all the MAME settings.

I like the look of maximus - nice and clean looking with the ability to load other systems (like pc, N64, sega, etc.) Some of the other emulator front ends are becoming too busy for my liking.

Here's a video of what is possible with this frontend. (This was the video I saw that made me want to try out this frontend).
