Bought a working Asteroids Cab

dezbaz

Question

It is pretty hard to find these in Aus, so I was wrapped to get this one for $400 on eBay

Hopefully this means I can finally get the Lunar Lander cab done too.

I hope to build either one of each cab now, or maybe do a combined cab, with an interchangeable CP.

The thread will be resurrected later when progress is made.

I'm very jealous... Asteroids is one of the few machines I have on my list as 'collectables' that I could justify occupying small amount of space.

I'm glad it went to a good home and not some shmuck who wanted more firewood! Still, when you're finished building your replicas, ship the original over to me ok ;)

Vector gurus needed

I managed to get inside, the keys were missing, but I removed a small panel and this allowed the back panel to come off.

I plugged it in after checking for loose things inside.

The game itself started, but the screen did not start. Noises occurred and the player buttons flashed. I could play the game, but nothing was on the screen.

I have never owned or seen inside a vector machine before, but I can tell that this is not the common monitor (WG 19V2000)

Another generous AA member donated an old WG 19V2000 to me, and they are totally different types.

The Screen in this machine has "HOKUTO E64257" on it

The HV/deflection combo has TJJ6211-225 on it (stamped into the heatsink), and 500BMB48F210205 printed onto the PCB.

Anyone ever heard of this type before?

I will check the fuses next, this game has about 12 fuses, and most of them are loose and rotate when you attempt to unscrew the cap, so that needs to be fixed too.

This must be a little known replacement monitor for the B+W Atari Vectors

Hi, I'm the seller of this cabinet (to dezbaz), thought it was about time I read this thread :) I've already emailed most of the following to dezbaz, but thought it might be useful to put some of this info in a public forum for use by others with similar hardware.

Australian-assembled Asteroids cabinets (by LAI) used a different vector monitor to that used by the American ones. The USA ones were usually WG monitors, but in Australia they tended to use their own design. You can read a bit more about them on page 9 of this very good document: http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/ARCADE/A-J/FAQ%20-%20Black%20and%20White%20XY%20(Version%201.1%20dated%207%20Feb%2002)%20%5BEnglish%5D.pdf

Also, the PDF manual for it can be downloaded at http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Monitors/ (it's called "LAI Monochrome XY etc etc")

As to this particular machine, the monitor worked before the game was shipped, but doesn't work after shipping, so my guess is that something is either loose or damaged in transit :cry
