OzStick
Hi All, Just a quick teaser to let you all know I have found a supplier for leaf switch buttons and they are sending me a few samples, which I hope to have toward the end of next week. The buttons themselves appear to be a little different to any other I've seen, however if for some reason they are "no good" the leaf switches themselves look like they could be adapted quite easily to fit any button that takes a standard type microswitch. Once they come in I will post a few pics and let you asll know what they are like.

OzStick
Geez, I'd have thought there'd be more interest in leaf switch buttons that just TWO PEOPLE! Ah well, it's a start. I should have the samples today so I'll do some playing with them and post a few pics up once I've had a chance to form an opinion of them. MetalSkin
sorry dont know what the difference is... quality? :unsure leaf switch are old school. its what the cabs in the 80's used. The major differences are (from what I know): Leaf switches wear out and require more maintenance Micros make a hell of a racket while leaf switches are a lot quiter Some say that the action of micros is not as nice and leaf switches Me personally, I don't care about the maintenance. Not hard to do a little sanding on the contacts (reminds my of my old N Gage choo choo days). why I want them is because they are quieter. I know my micros are gonna drive people nuts when I have em in the house, even with 18mm mdf for the cp.
spacies
Metalskin, True and not true. Some micors, Sanwa OBs for example, are dead quiet. You can't even feel them click. Cheap ones are noisy but do wear in. Leaf switches are cool. But not suitable for ALL games. Personal preferences comes into play here.

That said, it's been a very very long time since I've seen any leaf springs, so my memory may be incredibly rusty as to the noise! Of course the Cherry ones I have are a lot quiter than the el chepos i brought for my player buttons. What are leaf springs not good for? Kinda curious (sorry to hijack the thread). spacies
Hard to explain but the little Sanwas are very soft. Much quieter and softer than Cherry which are also VERY good. Games that originally came from the factory with leafs, such as Defender, Joust etc MUST, IMHO, use leaf. That said, some people don't like the feel of leaf and must have micros, so I dunno. Maybe they had bad experiences with leaf that weren't properly maintained buy operatos in the 80's. That wouldn't surprise me one bit.

biggeorge
I got a box full of brand new leafs a few weeks ago and they crap all over the microswitch buttons. They weren't cheap but the difference in feeling made gameplay much more enjoyable. Compare it to riding in a Rolls Royce as opposed to a hyundai excel with buggered suspension and you are getting close. The leaf buttons sit a little higher, and can be adjusted to be very sensitive, mild or mushy. The weight required to activate them is a lot less, and you do "feel" the contact point by a little resistance, but no distinct loud CLICK when it goes. For repeated button pushes they are much better, and because they are so light the old BIC cigarette lighter action works great or you can even go 2 fingered on one button and get it moving real FAST. Microswitch buttons seem to have one setting, and that is "mash the button 90% of it's travel, must be dead straight or it might not work every time, and then lift button all the way back to the top until it "unclicks" before you can hit it again." Come on Chris, post some pictures up and give us your feedback and some pricing...
