Haven't been up to Bathurst for raceday for years - used to in the late 70's and still remember watching with open eyes when Bill Brown roled his GTHO along the Armco which literally sliced the car in half and he survived fairly well. Those were the days-Moffatt - Bond - Geoghan - and some young brat named brock. good stuff when they raced 5? classes together. hated the Sierra,Jag,Skyline years. There is only one day of the year when no-one dares bother me these days and thats Bathurst sunday and top 10 saturday can't wait - Love that HOLDEN POWER:D

Nah, don't take the family. I first went in 1987 got wet & froze my ass off. In 1989 took the mrs & told her to rug up. quote " It gets cold on the mountain" & guess what? It was hot as. She wasn't happy , so she hasn't been back.

Nowday's I just camp up top with some mates.

Once a year go feral with the boy's , although last year they clamped down on it. but we'll see what this year is like.;)

HI Jeff,

yeah I didn't like the Sierra, Jag, Skyline years, although I did go there a few times then .

I think the Brock - Moffatt - Bond - Richards etc etc years were good.

How 'bout the ledgendry Harry Firth.

Recently I was lucky enough to spend some time with him again at my best mates place , the weekend before last.

The last 2 years he has come up to Toranafest @Newcastle & stays 300 metres down the road at my mates house. To sit around the dinner table & hear stories from those day's is unreal. memorable .

Fantastic bloke to meet & recently had his 90th birthday. He is still very switched on, no wonder they called him the Fox.

I agree , Love that HOLDEN POWER:cool:

cheers Steve

I've been going for the past 4 years, but have decided against it... Mainly because of the beer rules.

Other than the initial limit of grog you can take into the campgrounds http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/more-than-a-slab-a-day-is-excess-say-police/2008/09/07/1220725837021.html

they started (last year) setting up check points you had to go through to get to the race track... where they would take your beer! So you basically couldn't take your esky's in with grog, and had to buy their beer at the provided tents... $4.80 for them to pour a can into a cup! Talk about a grab for cash!

An event review has been completed by V8 Supercars Australia and the New South Wales Police Force introducing better access to the venue and setting alcohol limits for campers.

What you need to know - the basics

Each adult race enthusiast will be able to BYO alcohol into the campgrounds provided they only bring one of the following items into the campgrounds each day:

* One case (24 cans) of full-strength beer; OR

* One block (36 cans of light or mid-strength beer (3.5% alcohol content or less); OR

* One case (up to 24 cans) of pre-mixed drinks (6% alcohol content or less); OR

* One cask of wine (up to four litres).

A combination of these items is not allowed.

No glass alcohol containers are permitted in any of the camping areas or within the event precinct.

No I'm not going but I'm as excited as hell. Definitely an early christmas present. It coincides with my wife's birthday......not good.

I think they need to go back to this, race mini's vs holdens etc. Was before my time but it was a lot better and fun competition. Was back in the days when you could buy a car off the show room floor and race it that afternoon. Taking that away has really removed the fun. It was good when they did Group A's and you could buy the same car they raced off the show room floor. "Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday"

Fuck that! I just got back from there! I just spent 4 days on site building a new warehouse right at the foot of the mountain ( you could see the MOUNT PANARAMA sign from the car park.

My tip: Its gonna be hot as fuck in the day and cold as fuck in the night (well it was the last 4 days).

And there is no accomedation after wednesday, the whole town is already fully booked out (I know because I was looking into going back on site, but now I'm not YAY!)

Hey, does anyone who goes regularly remember a few years back when they did a parade before the race of Ford GT Hardtops? I was driving my Falcon in that parade. Just wondering if anyone remembers it.

Nice having a car that's fit for parades but when the racing starts the cars tend to go a tad quicker;). (never been able to resist a jab at a F.O.R.D man :D). Sorry I don't remember the parade but I'm sure it had some well turned out cars - Did they telecast it?

The Harry Firth !!!!- The guy that helped create HDT and helped The King of The Mountain on his way. You are one lucky fella:):). The best I've got was meeting Colin Bond a couple of times when he was messing with rallying F.O.R.D Escorts -----You Win!!!:lol

No, the parade was right before the race so the telly was more interested in covering who was driving in the race etc, which is what they should be doing. Of course the cars go quicker in the race, Fords a little quciker than holdens hopefully.
