Bally Supersonic help needed

I have a good friend of mine who bought this Bally supersonic from a auction 15 years ago for $150, when he got it he noticed that the A5 lamp driver board was missing so he put it in his shed and its been there ever since.

He has now dragged it out and wants to get it going, so I have bid on a A5 Lamp board on US ebay, and am wondering what else I should look at before we fire this up for the first time, It also needs a full rubber kit and a new ball.

The cabinet is real clean and the playfeild is real neat so apart from the bits mentioned it should be good.

Any help would be apreciated

Cheers

Dean

make sure correct fuses are in the power supply. Then verify voltages.

Thats a good start. Then see how many flashes you get from the MPU. If it's been stored for 15 years with the original battery attached, you'd imagine there would be some corrosion on the MPU.

Good luck!. Let us know how it turns out :)

Hi Dean,

I have been gradually working through the problems on my Supersonic. On my PCBs, I had to repair the sound board, replace about dozen SCRs on the lamp board + few resistors, replace the large capacitor on the power supply, repair the corroison damage to the CPU board (as Rod mentioned) and replace all the IC sockets and replace battery with a supercap, replace rectifier and resistor on PSU (still need to replace all PSU connectors) resolder dry joints on the displays headers, new coil sleeves, flipper linkages, ball plunger springs, pop bumper assemblies cracked to bits. My playfield had bad wear around the star in the centre which I believe is typical for this game. I also ended up removing the mylar on my pinball as it was bubbling and lifting. The playfield light sockets also need replacing. Most of the parts are ready available which is good. Let me know if I can be any help with getting your game going again.

Thanks Derek, I get the machine to my house this weekend and will have a real good look at all the boards, from the quick look I had, it seems the machine has either been privately owned or has not had much public use, so we hope it just had this board fault and was too expensive to fix at the time, but like you say the batteries leek so ill have to check for this.
