Funhouse left plunger (steps skill shot)

Mickey Juice

Question

I've got a problem with the left skill shot on my Funhouse... It's never worked properly from the start.

The plunger tip doesn't hit the ball flush, so it bounces around the lane and usually only ever gets halfway up the ramp... It's not really a skill shot, 'cause you have you have to use full force and are happy just to get it up the ramp!

Anyone got any solutions / fixes? and yes I have tried realigning the shooter.

Mine doesn't have that rubber sleeve :/

Compared to the right plunger which works flawlessly, the rubber tip never protudes very far past the metal of the apron

Might be worth taking off the outer plunger spring :unsure

does the ball sit evenly on the apron? I had a machine where one of the 'tongues' on one side of the plunger was a bit bent. Meant the ball was fired off like a billiard skew shot...

Cheers

It sits evenly... but you can see they've been bent.

I'm going to try and level the machine properly, adjust the shooter and go from there....

but yeah, currently it's like a billiard shot, bouncing sideways up the ramp ...

*bump*

I thought I'd bump this thread to get the opinions of other Funhouse owners...

Thanks for Blair for have a look at my FH and fixing the dodgy left shooter. He adjusted the plunger assembly to lower the angle of the shooter rod (added in some paper under the assembly, plus discovered the plate on the inside has started to dig into the wood, affecting the angle too). Next step will be to lift the height of the apron up a little bit too.

Question: Is it meant to be easy for the ball to get the very top of steps ramp for the superdog shot ie the one that hooks around and goes through the opto? or is it meant to be almost impossible? The steps themselves take a lot of speed off the ball. I haven't played the machine much since the fix, but it's rare for it to make it all the way.

*shakes fist*

Damn you!! lol

Nah, thanks, gives me something to work on.

I nearly got it all the way up there this morning but nearly isn't good enough by the sounds of it.

Looking at it again, a washer or two under the apron may help just to make sure the plunger isn't touching the apron at all on the way through. We need the super slo mo camera to see what is happening as it passes through the apron. :x

Are they the same springs on both the plungers?

The plunger is the original orange too... Might need to check if it's bent or not (I doubt it)

I doubt the apron is clipping the plunger, but it still might be worth a look.

This is an old post from RGP

Well, you need to now align the plunger so it's striking the ball exactly

dead center, straight down the length of the ball runway.

typically, the plunger is slightly off angle, and the ball grazes one wall or

the other on its way, which either slows it down or deflects it off the

straight path.

TIP : make sure the cabinet is PERFECTLY level left to right. Each playfield

support hook should fit neatly in its hole, no binding. If there's any

binding, that indicates that the cabinet is slightly twisted and the playfield

is not firmly mounted.

Ramp kit, yes ... installed it on both the old FH playfield in my game and

on the new one I assembled for the game. My old ramp was severely cracked

in the area the metal protects ... and the kit is now protecting the same

area on the new ramp from breakage.

I have had another fiddle with it and got it to a point where the ball makes it all the way up and around about 10% of the time. There is plenty of power in it, just the steps slow it right down most of the time.

I also adjusted the swing gate mounting bracket so it is as far over to the right as possible to minimise the ball touching it on the way past.

The plunger is still a bit too far over to the right for my liking but if it goes all the way left to get it in the middle then the plunger sits too high and is striking to top of the ball and is not as powerful.

Awesome! :)

Do you think it's still worth bogging up the indents where the mounting plate has gouged into the wood?

Also, I should know this but I don't... but what does the top superdog shot achieve in game anyway?

I also had some issues with the left plunger but they were the opposite due to a stronger spring being installed when I bought it.

I put in the correct spring and then I had your problem - not enough power.

Alignment is the key here. There was no simple solution except trial and error on the angle at which the tip strikes the ball.

Good news is, eventually I have a skill shot where I can make any of the 3 steps when required or around to the superdog opto at will (if I am having a good day).

Cheers and good luck with it.

Luke

I am going to try to jack up the bottom of the front mounting plate to try to drop the plunger down a bit but it has plenty of grunt at the moment and is a massive improvement to how it was at your place the other day Mick.

Iv'e had this problem on and off myself, where the ball will rebound off the post . the ball would end up coming onto the playfield. Thanks for possible cause on this issue, i think the plunger is not hitting the ball dead centre...cheers
