My Melbourne Trip

Recommended Posts

Heres a few shots of my trip to Melbourne if anyone cares.

This is a story about drums, drummers , pinheads and pinballs.

( this story ends with a new pinball by the way ! )

Have always wanted to attend the Australian Ultimate Drummers Weekend, so i thought I would combine that trip with a vist to Nino and a few cool pinheads I have dealt with for years but never met.

So I took 5 days away from the family and headed down the coast road......I past a few strangely named places

And the first nights accomodation at Mallacoota was a little bit shabby

Even in the middle of no-where ( the road to Mallacoota ) I copped a 10minute red light !!!

Anyway......so on Friday I end up in Bell / Preston area and I have a couple of days ahead of me at the Darebin Arts Centre for the drumming festival.

I urge ANY drummers out there to go to this once in your life, it is superbly run and organised and you get to learn from some Auastralian and International PRO drummers, watch them in concerts and meet them if you want to, theres a full set up of ALL the major manufacturers with gear on display and always something going on.

Heres a couple of shots

Heres me with Clayton Cameron and David Jones - CC played with Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin amongst MANY others and is the 'brushmaster' - the guy can play with 4 sticks ( 2 in each hand ) and have TOTAL control over each stick - DJ is also an incredibly gifted drummer.........and me there in the middle......yeah , I am fairly useless :lol

Pinheads

Finally I got to catch up with Nino.....I have to give a massive public thankyou to Nino and Sandra for thier hospitality on both Friday and Sunday nights.....too kind and much appreciated ....thanks Nino.:badgrin

Sunday arvo and night were spent chatting pins and we grabbed a visist to Gottmans place as well, I also met Matt ( KTM450 ) on the Friday......all real decent people and it was great to meet you.

Now.....Monday, I wake ........and I am scared.........today is the day that I know I must face Mark C's coffee...........how do I get out of it ....well I cant !! Luckily for me when we arrive Nino makes the coffee :)

I survived the nuclear cup and grabbed a quick photo.

Here is me, Mark C and Nino.

After chatting with Ian and the Duckman for a while , it is time to head north to Sydney again but not before filling the car with pin parts and my new purchase.

This is in VERY VERY good condition and plays beautifully - thanks Mark and Ian.

Always a pleasure, Wotto - Great to finally meet up and spend some time.. Hopefully you can make it an annual or bi annual visit - I might have more games set up for play.

That Flintstones was a dream to play, and I wish you had a picture of Mark "mummifying" it. how long did it take to unpack ? Contrary to popular belief, the Coffee at Mark's is fine - as long as he does not make it :badgrin

I reckon we had enough parts to start our own bloody pinball - sorry for making you turn around to pick up Gottman's parts, or I would have forgotten (again) :rolleyes

This was VERY COOL - Wotto went to the trouble of making me a birthday present - which was INCREDIBLY GREAT - so I have to share pictures of it;

No Flash folks - it looks better nice and "dark"..

It's the Fathom Flyer, cut in half and mounted on posterboard. In the middle of it, is a "write up" and the Backglass...Framed and it looks AMAZING !!!

Its on my wall already..

Thanks mate !!

:038:

See you soon !

Awesome trip Wotto. Some very interesting pics you took there :lol :lol :lol

Looks like Nino played the great host and made you coffee too!

That Flinstones looks fantastic. Does it need any work at all?

Very nice gift you made for Nino. Actually you've inspired me to make a big arse framed wall hanging full of flyers.

Hey Wotto - that sounded like a great trip! :)

I do a bit of drumming - been playing keys for many years but took up drumming 3 or 4 years ago. Have wanted to go to the Drumtek weekend but not got around to it.

So what gear do you have?

Been playing Bass for 15 years. All we need is a guitarist and vocals and we've got an AA band! :lol

Cool story Wotto!. I'll hopefully be in Melb in Nov, so will have to look into some pinball activities. Was looking forward to Finny's. Oh well.
