Wide body-Open playfield Vs Tight playfields??

Recommended Posts

What do you guys like??My Genie sure is a big machine...big long shots take quite alot of skill...But tighter playfields seem easy to hit drop targets ect but your reaction time needs to be good for close rebounds...I Love both big and wide and tight close games...But they sure play totally different.

Widebody games - Genie is a great example - is a sloooow game and to really enjoy it, you need to have well adjusted flippers. My favorite pinball shot is in this game - the RHS flipper straight up to the rear target bank.. Awesome Game... Try playing a game on KISS straight after a Game on Genie.. Waaay too frantic.

At home, I play Paragon, which is a great playing widebody (best SS WB), and then I play the "cramped" Medusa.. Medusa is a very hard game to play after playing the Paragon. But if you play Medusa FIRST - its not that hard.

As mentioned in the "What kind of man are you" thread. My mates and I hated the wide bodies when we were kids. Just didn't seem to get a good run from those valuable 20c pieces at the time.

Granted, they were Stellar Wars, ESB and Future Spa (yuk). Never got the chance to play Genie or Paragon. Looking forward to giving Genie a bash next weekend tho :)

Genie is a ripper.. and I've heard Paul's is in great condition. The three widebodies you have mentioned are not good examples imho. Genie is better than all of them.

Each pin to it's own.W/B or not they should all be judged on individual merits. Having said that I am a Widebody myself so I guess I am better suited to a Widebody pin:D

Couldnt imagine what a TZ would have been on a standard sized playfield. Love to watch kids play the widebody with their arms stretched out to the point of shoulder dislocation.:lol

When my son was 2 years old, he used the LHS flipper and I used the RHS flipper on my Paragon.. He could never reach both. He is 4 now, and loves Paragon - probably because he can comfortably reach the flippers. :lol

I like to play both normal and wide-body pins, but find my skill level (or lack of) is more suited to wide-body pins with open playfields.

It's definately more about the individual game than whether wide or normal works best. Black Hole for example can be very fast indeed when the upper slings start shooting into the pop bumpers. Then there's ESB - you pretty much have time to watch the movie waiting for the ball! Except when it hits those way-too-close stand up targets and the ball (and pieces of target) shoots straight back!
