Hi Guys
Just replaced the dmd display glass on my Star Trek 25th.
For anyone doing this that is new to pinball repairs, let me advise you on some patience.
It took about 10mins to cut the legs of the old glass off so I could remove the glass, then I pulled out the legs from the board with pliers and the soldering iron. This took about 30 mins. Then I had to desolder each little damn hole to clean up the holes. This probably took me a good 46mins.
The painful part was in lining up the legs of the glass to the dmd board. Christ was that painstakingly slow. This is the stage patience is really needed and I have none. Anyway, managed to get it all lined up and the soldered the legs in which was quick.
Unfortunately my soldering iron tip crapped itself towards the end. Had to go buy a new tip to solder the bad solder joints on 6 legs on the display as the rows were missing on the display. All worked and looked great in the end.
Whole project took say 2 1/2 hours.
If only DE had of started with a bloody 128*32 DMD!!!
If anyone can provide tips to those in future when lining up the glass to the board, please add to this thread.:D
PS: Thanks to Tony for the bargain glass on ebay
