Best way to remove old laminate ?

Recommended Posts

Spacies could prob use your help on this one. Whats the best way to remove old laminate and the old glue to put fresh stuff on ?

Guessing heat gun and a scraper ?

Any tips and tricks i should know about ?

Ooo I'm interested in the answer to this too! my sitdown cab has some light grey laminate all over it, but it's damaged in places so I wanna replace it. It's bloody thin (kinda like what you see on most kitchens now a days), so I spose first I gotta remove it and then I gotta source similar and replace it. Then I gotta do the art work :) Ahh so much fun :)

Yep a heat gun is the best way to do it. Get it hot as hell and it should come fairly easily.

Use a scraper and heat gun to get most of the residue off and then some solvents to remove the last of it.

Sand smooth and you are good to go!.

Good luck mate.

How do you go about reproducing the laminate? On mine it's like it's manufactured, as the laminate is really thin and has simple artwork on it.

When I look close at the art work I can't see any paint or feel any edges, so makes me wonder if it was printed on the laminate. I spose the only option I have is try and source similar laminate (weird light grey colour) and spray on the art work, wont be the same as orig, but buggered if I know how else to restore :(
