General Monitor/ TV conversion question

MetalSkin

Question

G'day guys,

I'm currently looking for a tube for my sit down cab (Interstellar laser disk game cab), the original monitor would have been a 19" (someone ripped out the orig tube long before I got it :( ).

As such I'm wondering is getting a TV, ripping out the tube and buying a universal chassis the best path to go? I've looked on ebay and seems to me getting a tv should be cheap enough, then I can get a chassis either ala gamedude or that resident expert who builds custom ones.

So if a TV tube is okay, what do I need to avoid? I've seen some mention that it takes a while for the tv to warm up, is that the tube or the chassis in the tv that is the problem? Is there any brands I should avoid (I'm aware that flat screens are a problem)?

Or should I just go to somewhere like gamedude and buy a new tube and chassis?

Oh, btw thought this was the most apt location for this post, if not please move.

/MetalSkin

:edit:

no one got an answer? :(

and generally go to a tv repair shop and ask for a old tube. saves them dumping it and free

Yup, this is an old thread. been chatting to jomac under his shop front, never realised that jomac had his own area :D

Got an NEC 62cm (which sounds strange, so may be a 64cm, here's hoping) that I'm picking up this weekend and another 19" TEAC from memory. Also been given 3 x Computer CRT's that are 17". So may use a 17" in my cocktail table I'm building and give the other two away.

I'm sure this will take a duel Res Chassis (I once asked the same question)

I'm a newb to all this so what's the advantage of a duel res chassis? I presume it means it can handle a CGA and a VGA signal but not 100% certain. Maybe it means it can handle some custom frequencies that various PCB's use? :unsure

Some fighting games need 24Khz Monitors

I tried tekken 3 last weekend on a 15Khz monitor and it only had 16 colours.

Duel res has both
