felixthadog
My friend has a wireless security camera that uses a transmitter that interfaces with a TV via an A/V cable. He wants to connect the transmitter to his laptop rather than a TV, but his laptop does not have RCA connections. Is there a converter/adaptor that he can buy that will convert RCA to USB or serial? Or is there another solution? :unsure Matthew
David_AVD
I sell these but it's a bit overkill for your application: http://www.audiovisualdevices.com.au/viewprod.php?productid=USB205

Prof
To use a cheap av unit, you would need a svga to comp converter. Ebay would be the easiest place

Oh, does it have to work? :lol

BodgeyBen
Does his laptop have an S-Video input? If it does then you can buy S-Video to RCA (composite) adapters easily in Jaycar etc.

gints
No I can't see that working. That is merely an adaptor cable if you're laptop can already do TV-OUT. Since you need to go INTO the laptop monitor, they really don't have any built-in interface for video-in of any kind, whether it is VGA/RCA/S-Video unless it is perhaps some primo laptop with a video capture card etc. Thus the only really viable input is USB, and to convert from RCA to USB would take some pretty heavy/nifty analog-digital signal processing (hence why Davids product is large/expensive). I think there are probably PCMCIA Video-in cards out there, I seem to remember a guy i used to live with had one so he could play PS2 on laptop monitor. Ill have a squiz Regan EDIT: This should do the trick: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Notebook-PCMCIA-NTSC-PAL-TV-Tuner-Video-MPEG-Card_W0QQitemZ260235348522QQihZ016QQcategoryZ111509QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
