spacies
Jesus these things are dirty inside. You lift up the PF and touch a couple of things and your fingers are black. I removed and cleaned the ramp underneath the PF and it was like a days worth of working on a car. I swear I smell like a smoker even looking at the thing. Fish Tales
I wonder where the dirt comes from on the playfield. I guess the debris from playfield rubber breakdown would be one cause. Maybe the accumulation of dirt from the bottom of the cab gets cycled onto the playfield somehow? Coil sleeve breakdown maybe a cause, and other bits of plastic geting chipped away. Really I would think they would stay pretty clean. I can not keep the new rubber on my pin clean for very long at all. I even cleaned out the ball trough but that made fuck-all difference. :unsure
Pindividual
Perhaps the coil dust makes its way up onto the playfield. And black rubber would also be contributing, where it exists.
bigdaddy
I think it has something to do with the magetic fields that grow and collapse in the coils and also the charges associated with the machine being powered on. A bit like why a BPpen run through the hair on a hot dry day will bend water or pick up paper. Its the same in pinballs = pinballs are sh#t magnets and need to be kept clean. Thats why so many come from containers in the condition they do as operators rarely clean a machine properly...could be talk'n crap though. bobski
Rusty Balls Hmm Spacies, I thought being a "dirty" machine it would suit your nature better :lol I imagine everyone is partly right and together probably totally. Playfield rubber rings will loose small particles which get distributed over and under the playfield. Metal rails and striker plates will also loose small particles from ball impact. Coils and plungers also generate dust and their movement and the heat the pin generates helps to distribute it all. Mix all this with rusty balls (not something I suffer from, in case any asks) :rolleyes traveling round at a huge rate of knots and in my case someone who was overenthusiastic with CRC and you have a real mess, which gets spread everywhere. Cheers.
