One technique I've used successfully is to lever the plastic body off the pins with a flat blade screwdriver. If needed, you can cut the body every few pins of so to make it easier. If you do this, be careful not to hack any tracks on the component side of the PCB.

If you do this, you end up with a row of individual pins which you can remove one at a time, rather than 12 or 20 pins that all have to come out at once. You then heat up and remove each one with a pair of pliers or whatever. Finally, use a solder sucker or wick to clean the holes in readiness for the new connector.

Poorly explained, but hope it helps.

i have found that brute force also works a charm.

dnt be frightend to show little bastards whos boss. grab a decent sized ball pein hammer and a cold chisel and flog hell out of them. they will soon know hows boss and jump right off the board as the get frightened real easy.infact don't be suprised if they are already gone by the time you return from the shed with your items of mass destruction.

:lol
