Womble
My 1st repair, a bit of a cop out as was hardly tricky. Bought a Bombjack board of ebay for AU$50, sold as working but with no sound. As expected the amplifier chip was totally dead, didnt even get warm, and no hum when pins were touched. Signs on the board that this chip had been very very hot at some stage, scorched caps nearby. Images I could find online showed this chip up against a heatsink, no heatsink on this board, or any witness marks by the mounting holes to suggest that it had ever had one. Chip is a Mitsubishi 515161, hard to find, expensive when you do. Best price was €7, worst was £19. Have cable tied a mono jack on the board using the heatsink mounting holes. Easy to remove if I come across a 51516 in the future, decided AU$10 for an amp chip is a bit steep, plus postage. Sound through off board amp is fine.
