streetfighter_87
a good mate of mine just picked up a sf2 Champion Edition board off ebay. It seemed ok when he first got it home, but a few days later he told me to come look at it. I noticed that sometimes like say when ryu does a hadouken, the sound effect for it doesnty actually happen? A few other sound glitches like when punching someone you dont here the noise Is this just a sound rom problem that can be fixed by replacing or fixing the rom chip? Or is a new board an easier soloution? If so anybody got a SF2 CE Board lying around? Cheers
Womble
It might be the rom, or some of the logic controlling the rom. He will have to have a sniff around the rom looking for dead lines, especially the control lines.
Roxbury
Could be heaps of different things, I would check the easy stuff first before getting into the tech stuff. EG Does the edge connector have a good connection on the board, do you have the edge connector lined up with the pins fairly well (sometimes their is a couple of mm 'give' either way). Check the voltages on the board. Once the basic stuff is out the way, then get into more advanced fault finding.
GameDude
First thing to do is swap top ROM boards with another set... This will rule out whats good and bad.. If swapping the top board makes it OK then you have a ROM issue most likely. If it makes no difference then the bottom PCB is at fault There is two ways of making sound on most boards.... Digital sounds and noise generated ones.... There is a Z-80 and some Audio Ram. There are a few Audio IC's responsible for sound and one will be for digital and one for analog sound.... The "sound chip" for digital may be bad or it could be an op-amp or even a bad cap in the mixing stages...... At any rate it needs repair by the sounds of it....
