Stopping internet access on windows profiles

Recommended Posts

A friend just sent me a message asking if i knew a way to " lock my network so other people can't access my internet without my permission."

I think she wants to stop her kids from getting on the internet.

Im thinking of maybe setting up seperate profiles on her comp and changing the settings so her kids profile wont be able to get online.

I never really bothered with user profiles before , so im not sure what it can do , or what u can let it do.

So u guys with ur kids accessing ur comp , what have you done ?

i have never had much luck with this... i used a program called folderguard to basically block access to ie or firefox thus blocking net access. there were ways to get around it but it did make it harder.. u could use proxies to block certain websites if thats what the worry is... but ill b interested in peoples responses

If the kids aren't computer savvy a zero access Internet Explorer Policy works a treat. I use it for my kids and it prompts for a password for any web-sites not in my approved list. IF you want a copy let me know and I'll PM it.

Cheers,

Brad

Thanks guys ... shes since told me shes using the laptop wirelessly , and it seems someone nearby has found her wireless network and logged into it .. ive told her to secure it by creating a key for the network.

I showed her that her network was open last time i was at her place by using my nokia E65 to get online. :rolleyes

Now ... to get about securing my own wireless network ... hmmm maybe later , its only been 3 months since ive set it all up. :p
