Once you get your Xbox modded. BTW the ONLY chip worth getting is the executer 3 is to have it talk to your Tivo

Yes thats right a Tivo!!

http://homepage.mac.com/hlouey/PhotoAlbum51.html

You can also then turn it into a media center and interface it with other os'es like Mac

Look at the control panel of my Xbox.

All I need now is a Mame Cabinet :badgrin

Not sure if your talking to me, but anychip you want

I was asking Mamedownunder, but this one:

Any idea what chip he uses?

was directed at you :D So yeah, same question.

I might even try and install it myself. Thanks for the link. I was struggling to find an aussie site (used to check out xmods.com.au, but they dissapeared).

Now i have to decide between the xenium (which my mate suggested) and the xecuter (plus get an xbox :D)

Yeah, most of my mates use the xenium, but the xecuter is vcool if you want the extra features....

To do it youself, you'll need an original game that uses the save mod eg 007 game, some other do it too, and a Xbox memory card. This is to unlock it, then of course some bridging needs to be done etc... xbox-scene have grerat instructions on how to

Cool thanks.

I've just been reading up on the chips. Xenium have released the 'gold version' or whatever, but it looks like it's harder to get a hold of.

I like the Xenium 'cause it's all internal ie no outer dip switches etc

But then again, as you said the xecuter has the extra features.

hmm, decisions, decisions...

Does the xecutor have 'safety' features ie if you screw up a bios update?

The xecuter and most others I've seen don't need outer dip switches.... Pretty sure that xecuter has multi bios, meaning is has more ram so you can have the standard tsop ram in it, and different bios / versions on the chip, if you stuff it, usually it's press a certain button on the controller (might be on the mod) to load of the different bios..

ahh, they don't either:

(2) & (7) are optional as the switch module is not actually needed for everything to work, however its a cool piece of kit which adds excellent function to your mod install (LAN LED, HDD LED, Manual Switches, Flash Protect, Mod Status LED).

Yeah I think you're right. The protection is on the chip (hardware, I think Xenium is software).

Have you considered doing a soft-mod? I modded mine myself by hotswapping the drive into my PC and installing a font exploit. I've had it modded like this for about a year and am yet to experience any problems yet, I actually prefer it to my friends chipped box (not sure what he has, neither is he) as his in-game-reset doesn't work and you need to hold the button in when turning it on to activate the chip whereas on mine it always uses the exploit unless a game is in the drive. Total cost came to the price of a 200GB HD ('bout $130) and a few hours work. I did this on an old PC and took a few other precautions when doing the swap (such as grounding the xbox to my PC) in order to minimize the harm should I screw it up, I didn't though and all was sweet.

The soft-mod can do most things that a chip can do, it allows me to play imported/backed up games, run XBMC (though which I can watch DVD/divx/xvid/mpeg etc movies, listen to mp3's, launch emulators etc), connect to it from my PC over the network (I actually stream my mp3's and a fair amount of movies/tv shows from my PC rather than going through the hassle of putting in a cd/dvd.. yes, I am lazy). I'm yet to come across anything my friends chip can do that my soft-mod can't (well, his skips the xbox animation when you turn it on.. but considering the price... FREE.. I'm willing to make that concession :P). Though until now I hadn't heard of this Tivo functionality.. not that I'd ever use it anyways, though..

As has been said, xbox-scene is a fantastic resource and it is through that site and its forums that I got all of the information I needed.

Good Luck!

My Understanding is from version 1.5 unwards (1.6b) which is my new one can't be softmadded ie TSOP flashed. Thus the chip..

Of course this way you can't have backup on chip, not enough room on the TSOP, and if you F*ck the chip, see it done with wrong bios, then you have to chip it.

My current is softmodded, and no Xbox live, the chip mmods you can have the normal bios still, so you can do Xbox Live but need original game, I think MS still can detect if been modded, not sure if they look at hard drive or chip etc to detect.

An alternative and works really well is Xlink Kai, some others too out there.

Any game that has crosslink ability, (lets you hook two xbox's together) will work.

You run the Xlink Kai software on the PC, connected to the InterWeb, select what realm / game you want to play. Then fire up your xbox, I go into XBMC, as under apps they have Xlink already configured, fire it up, then fire up a game and your playing against mulitple people etc...

Righto. I've bought the Xecuter now, plus the front replacement panel w/lcd screen :)

I'm guessing you can only use the X3 bios with the 3CE chip??

Another question for those that have XBMC as a replacement dashboard. ...

Which method did you use? ie Edit and re-flash the BIOS or use a shortcut method?

I'm trying to work out which is better ie cleaner and simpler.

I'm thinking the shortcut method http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka.php?wakka=dashinstallsetupv2&v=cab

I dont see any mention of X3 :unsure

HEre;s some guides on what to do, I too have what you have, and you got to know what combinations of what buttons to press in to active the bios banks and sizes, I'll attach an image that can help you.

Edit the X3 Bios (comes standard) I only use this to configure setting and naming bios's

http://x3.bustedchain.com/x3configlive.html#bios

How to change :"xecuter roxs my box" this comes up when booting

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=514233

I've haven't touched the bios since I originally had it done, and forgotton a whole lot of stuff. Also their support sucks and lack of documentation is really poor when it comes to configuring / flashing etc. Heaps of doccos on installing the chip

Awesome! thanks :)

I was hoping that the BIOS had configurable options eg boot sequence...

I was trying to work out atm ie boot XBMC as dash from the bios. I thought I might have to edit the BIOS etc and it was getting confusing.... esp 'cause all the docs/tuts I could find are in regards to X2 bios & chip.

No Worries..

I thing to do is install flashbios_v303 as a dashboard. I'm yet to do it, nout enough time in the day!!!

What I've been told, is to install it as the backup dash board, that way if any get corrupted or infact if all die, you can boot into flash bios and flash from there.

Found this too, although it's got the older style dip switches everything still applies

hmm, I might look into the V303 as a Dash.

I think I've got it all down pat now :)

Install X3 chip,

flash X3 bios onto it via FlashBios.

Install XBMC as an App over FTP.

Edit the BIOS to point to XBMC on startup (the dash).

Reading about the X3 Bios, it looks like you can do a lot of cool stuff with it. :D

I installed two X3 modchips last night.

Installation was a breeze (both hardware and software).

XBMC is now my new dash.

So now the next thing to do is grab a larger HDD for it :)

The X3CE already has flashbios loaded on the backup 256k chip. So you can boot to that anytime.

Oh yeah thats right, some idiot deleted it (me) I still haven put it back. What skin are you running. I've got the latest tc3h release with mc360 skin, direct copy from the xbox 360 skin, love it, not yet high def but it's going to be.....

Niice :)

I've only got 360 themed skin running on the X3 bios. XBMC is still running the default one (which is still pretty spiffy).

I just have to tweak some settings (I just dumped the XBMC directory contents into E:\ to get it going).... I want to clean it up and put it into E:\apps\XBMC. So I think I have to edit some .xml files to do so.
