Just bought my 1st EM pin

Recommended Posts

I just won the Bally Hi Deal that was on Ebay for $620. Seemed like a good deal after speaking with the seller on the phone...they have owned it for 28 years and it just stopped working and they never got it fixed. Hopefully a blow of compressor air inside might clear some dust and it'll fire up. General illumination still works. Backglass is scrath free and he reckons the only wear is in the shooter lane. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow! He can't find the keys though...anyone know how to break in to one of these babies? Easy to pick the lock? Ebay item number was 200158706981.

eBay link is here.

Looks a good buy so far. Congrat on your first EM pin.

I guess you have a couple of options with the lock. Maybe a locksmith if you don't want to damage anything. I haven't tried it but have heard you can use a flathead screwdriver with a square shaft in the lock and then turn the shaft with a spanner. There may be less drastic methods that someone else can suggest. Someone opened the head up on my pin by gently prising the top lid up enough to allow the backglass to come out.

I've just been gutted! Was talking to the seller again and he told me his friend was selling a mint Captain Fantastic and wanted $1500. Called him and he sold it yesterday for $1300 cash! AAARRRRGGGHHH!

Have been collecting EM pins for 30 years and just cant see what people see in this game - would rate a 1 out of 10 for game play - it blows - cool looking game though

hey regarding these locks... I dont have a pinball but if I'm not mistaken these are the same type of barrel locks as you find in laptop 'kensington' locks (they look like a circle with a little notch out of them).

There was a youtube video on these types of locks last year. Believe it or not if you get a piece of cardboard from a toilet roll and roll it into a cylinder just big enough to push into the circle, and wiggle it around, you may find you can turn the lock.

I've tried it successfully with laptop kensington locks... do a search on google and give it a go.

Picked it up. Almost destroyed it on the way home as I was wearing my Ass Hat today. Lock drilled out very easily took about 1 second and the drill pulled the door open. Opened it up and there's no chime unit. Looks like it will clean up OK but has some very slight wear that is under mylar. Switched it on and I just got some GI lighting and lots of buzzing. I'll take another look at it tomorrow.

Got it going and played it today. Cleaned heaps of contacts and the steppers but that didn't help. Fuses were all good. Then I found it...a 20c coin jammed in the coin mech leaning on the credit switch. Pulled the coin out and she fired up. Gave it a good clean, pulled off all the plastics and replaced about 40 globes. The "100" scor reel coil is jammed up but everything else seems to be working perfectly! Stoked! Will post some before and after pics if anyone is interested.

Nothing like the smell of an old EM. Congrats on your purchase.. You will find plenty of reading on EMs in the Marvin's guides..

GI and buzzing could be a good sign... Start a game and see what happens !

Yeah Nino, something about that smell - these old girls gave heaps of character and if they could talk imagine the stories they could tell :rolleyes

Take your time and be patient

Congratualations on your first EM pin. Looks good. Did you recontact the seller to see if he had the chimes, maybe he removed them for some reason?

Did it come with circuit diagrams?

Where are you loacated? IF you are not to far away and ever need a hand to fix it let me know and I will come by, I have a lot of experiance on EM pins they are pretty easy to fix. I dont charge, just for fun.

Yes, as soon as I noticed it was missing I called thew seller right away...he couldn't even remember if it had chimes, reckoned the door hadn't been opened for ten years! I'm in Melbourne, Montrose. Feel free to fix all my problems!

See if this works.....
