buzz66
Do you think stern can survive once the commercial operators are all but gone. In other words do you think they can survive pretty much on home sales alone. I'd love to know what percentage of their sales are for the home user. I would love to buy a new Stern, but their themes suck big time. IMO. Take a look at this http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=5237&picno=34871&zoom=1 How can you own Spiderman and look at those dipshit actors plastered all over the Slingshots, every time you hit the ball & not throw up! As for there latest "Wheel of Fortune" WTF were they thinking. Are Americans really that FITH. Then maybe CSI or Batman. Surely this Holywood crap can't last. Monty Python could work because it appeals to the age group interested in pinball machines, but they didn't run with it. It's not like Stern has no designers. I think Stern are so close to the wall they are shit scared to design a machine by themselves, just in case it doesn't make the min numbers. Very sad waste of talent, IMHO. When you look at Williams/Bally the biggest majority of hit 90's games have no third party licence. MM....CC.....CV.....TOTAN....AFM....TOM.....funhouse....MB....SS...WH20....NGG...and more. Am I the only one who wouldn't buy a new machine unless holywood isn't attached. The machine has to be fun to play, great sound ETC, but the look & appeal of a pinball machine is the first thing that must hold your attention, isn't it? Maybe i'm just a fuckin weirdo! Don't answer that.

comrade.vader
If they make pokies like bally does then they wont have any problems viewed a doco on bally design studio regarding pokies it was a eye opener on the amount of research and Focus groups to design a new pokie, was amazing no details are missed
banger181
The way of the dinosaur Really - who's closed down? Are there less machines out on site. Anyone got any stats?
Shock_And_Awe
there is only one arcade in Newcastle and the Central Coast combined compared maybe 20 locations 10-15 years ago. That is definitely a sign :D

Shock_And_Awe
It's a very sad day when an arcade closes down. Last year a few of us met a couple of times at a bar/10 pin/ arcade in Darling Harbour. Another night we met at an arcade in Burwood. Now both of these places have closed. It's getting difficult to find somewhere these days for sure.
buzz66
Arcades don't have to close down, for pinball machines to die out. Take a look at nearly any arcade left. 10 to 1 they have less and less pinnies every year, or the machine they do have are less and less playable. IE many faults. frs
The main arcade in Bris only has a LOTR & ST:TNG - both unplayable Seems like all the pins out at Bris airport are screwed too The only pin I know of in Bris City in a working condition was a POTC, though that might be fucked by now too, as it wasn't being maintained all that well last I saw Sad times
DKong
Pinball will never die (100 years of ball action on a playffeld), arcade machines maybe (as we know them) you can't emulate a pinball on a computer, its just not right! They are living dinosaurs! Edit I am happy Stern are producing more Pin's, must be doing something right after ten releases or so
Administrators Arcade King Posted September 25, 2007 Administrators Share Posted September 25, 2007 Well if Arcades do die it was because of inflated prices all round, from the cost of the machine to the $$ to play.
Brootal
Am I the only one who wouldn't buy a new machine unless holywood isn't attached. Well I'm never likely to buy a new machine, but I don't want no stinking hollywood. Seems people these days are scared to come up with concepts for themselves. Just pick a blockbuster movie, and fans will buy your product :(
Fair Dinkum Dan
Nice topic Paul. :023: Is STERN really losing the plot? Although I don't see myself buying NIB anytime soon, I do think that STERN have been making better pins as they go along. TSPP, LOTR and Family Guy have been quite good hits for them. Not too sure with Spiderman yet, as I haven't had the chance to play it or give it a good close up eyeball. As for WoF, there must be something there for them to want to produce it. Most of the late Bally/Williams pins you mentioned Paul, were they not very popular when they were first released? :unsure Not saying that they weren't/aren't good pins, just that I don't think that most of them were originally huge hits. Then again, I could be wrong. :unsure As long as there is money to be made in pinball machines sited, there will be operators. Providing there are venues to accomodate them. Cheers, Dan

I think he is refering to Mac Bank buying stern as per his post :unsure thanks for that not sure why they would unless they had other plans they are very good at investing ( lending money) in companys and watching them fall over. maybe they could do to get control and then re sell them at a profit dont they own the pinball place at crown here ?? maybe better off something closer here ? hold on I hear the phone is that them ?? nah its david mark
