Raiden DX and MKII LAI 25"

Recommended Posts

Picked up both of these on a good ebay deal not working.

Both are 25" MKII LAI cabinets (one with original receipt) one has been stripped of all its artwork and converted to Raiden DX, with an original raidenDX Marquee. Which is good as three MKII's is just way too many I'm not really a fan either of the game .:rolleyes

MKII

Cabinet complete and game works (one rom shows bad?) but game is still very playable, sound etc screen is dark even with the brightness turned right up .It has an Orion monitor which after talking to Jomac is rubbish so going on the hunt for a 25" (59cm) AKAI or similar. The KORTEK chassis might still work fingers crossed.

Just needs a good clean inside

Replaced Fluro and starter and cleaned Marquee.

PSU is making an intermediate buzzing sound so will have to replace that

Side artwork has a couple of small tears, the worst on left side top front about 2cm x 15 cm

Control panel is in great condition.

Missing coin mech

RaidenDX

Is missing monitor chassis but has the better Samsung tube so have purchased a new Sharp Image Dual Res Chassis from Jomac.

The inside has not been changed at all, with the Seibu Kaihatsu RaidenDX board plugging straight into the original MKII harness .

So after checking everything ;) I fired it up tonight without the monitor and it works, well the sound does anyway :badgrin

Cleaned most of the inside

Replaced Marquee fluro and starter

So all to do is wait for the new monitor chassis and maybe do some custom Raiden artwork based on the marquee for the CP and sides

Missing coin mech

Its great working on two cabs which are identical at the same time using one for reference etc.

Will take some better photo's when I remember to leave the car out.

Raiden DX

Bought a new chassis off Jomac, and ended up blowing the flyback with a nice cloud of smoke similar to this vid

without the music and "there she goes" it was more like WTF, OMG fu#$ingg hell.

A quick word to Joey and he mentioned I should of watched the neck yoke for sparking ( I was watching the front expecting Raiden). Mental note to always watch the back of the tube when connecting a new chassis.

So a quick (a second or two) test with another monitor chassis revealed the blue sparking in the yoke. So the Samsung tube has a crack or short in it (basically landfill). Joey being the top bloke he is , is going to fix the chassis for me.

So still looking for a 59cm(or 61 cm as Impure told me they fit well too) TV tube, have all the feelers out at local repairers and checking tip shops etc.

well done dkong, nice cabs

raiden one of my favorites

thanks mate still a long way to go ( as it seems like a 59cm, 61 cm TV tube doesn't exist anymore down here) , was trying to play RaidenDX on Mame to see what its like but can't seem to get it to run freezes at the test screen.

the PCB I have seems to work fine ( at least the sounds are there) and is a keeper for sure. Considering the cab has already been converted from MKII ( Artwork, original CP Artwork removed etc) can't see any reason not to make a dedicated 63cm Vertical shooter cabinet out of it, and give it some Raiden Spunky Artwork.

Is missing the rectangular Start buttons too (1p & 2p) and noticed Ozstick have some good looking illuminated rectangular buttons, so will putting an order in for them. ( Should I go light or dark, the light one's look better to me).

and anyone have any suggestions on good joysticks for shooting games, currently has the MCA's I think

lotza choices dkong, i like the non illuminated white 1p/2p buttons with the man on it. joysticks too, the euro stick is quite retro for me, depends what you grew up with i guess. http://www.ultimarc.com/controls.html

Still need to try some more joysticks, I found the two Happ Joysticks I bought (a couple of years ago) tend to stick sometimes, can't remember if they were pro or what. changed one assembly over to another I had in "The Tank joystick" and worked fine

even better score on the RaidenDX for me if it doesn't work on MAME, would push the value up :p

Praying for an old 59cm , 61 cm tube to be lying around..c'monnnn I know your out there :lol

How much are you willing to pay for a tube/ complete TV. As you know I am on the lookout for a 63cm tube. Personally if I find a 63cm NEC TV for $50 I would be happy. If I find a 59 - 61cm TV down here that was the right brand price/ brand for you, I could possibly get it up to Launceston for you (lots of travel between North/ South Offices for work). I could keep an eye out for you in my search as well.

Hopefully free, but would pay up to $50.00. The actual tube I need measures 63cm from edge to edge but have been told its a 59cm or 61cm TV I need. This is the viewable part of the screen (the greyish area). The 59 is usually in the serial number on the tube.

Are you sure you are after a 63cm TV or 59cm.

Let me know if you find any and I will look out for you.

Cheers

I am looking for a TV with 63cm viewing area ( I will double check though - all this 25 inch, 59cm, 63cm gets confusing). Lately when browsing I have had taken a tape measure with me everywhere.

I did find a 63cm TV, it was an AWA brand, looked early 80s. I passed it up because I want an NEC (more chance of it working with Jomac chassis) and ideally a mid to late 90's model.

Update

Well after searching for a 59cm tube cheap or free I gave up and went to Cash Converters today for a look, low and behold a 59 cm Daewoo TV, so after knocking them down to $70.00 I took it home to pull apart. Absolute filth inside Turns out to be an Orion tube but much better than the b grade ones found in these cabs originally. (pic 1&2)

I really only had to stuff around with the yoke plug as the TV had a different size to the arcade monitor.

Quick fire up no smoke, sparking or anything else bad phew.

A quick look at the screen and it looked like some adjustment needed (pic 3)

Thats better (pic 4) (i must learn how to insert images into the text??)

Ok so have the H and V size turned nearly all the way up and now have a bowing hourglass nuisance. (Pic 5 and 6)

As you can see the picture bends in the middle at the top and the same at the bottom. Anyone know why?

Besides that the picture is great and the game works well. Thanks Joey (Jomac) your a legend!

That would be trapezoid adjusment.....my screens have adjustments pots for that. Mine are horizontal not vertical and it appears on the edges of the screen...which would be your top and bottom. Not sure what causes it but yeah.....every arcade cab i've had has had an adjustment somewhere for that....but you have a tv so i'm not sure...maybe on the chassis somewhere?

Thanks Stu. I'm using a chassis from Jomac (sharp image) , which allows you to use a normal TV tube instead of an arcade one, the rest of the TV is going to the tip except the shielded speakers ;) (TV tubes are better quality ) just made a quick call to him and it turned out to be a connector on the chassis. Small and large screen so I just changed that over (seem to recall AK having the same problem once) screen image is much bigger so I tweaked the H & V down and now have a picture I am very happy :D with.

Woo hoo Raiden DX tonight!

The gap at the bottom was purposely left as the bezel covers part of the screen. Now just need to get some P1 and P2 buttons (the square type).

Happy happy happy :D:D:D

lol

Glad you got it working

Thats the next step mate! :D DC has some of the (if not the) best shump's Have to get one of them Jamma/DC things, where I don't know, saw some reports of people having to hack controllers to use arcade buttons etc. Bought the DC last year ready for this "23/24 inchs of pure Vertical fun"

that's just lookin soo sharp, well done.

what are you going to border the monitor with?

Thanks Mikie with the original black bezel ( the plastic surround , that photo was a bit off till I fitted it) but with Jomacs new chassis I was able to configure it without a mirror (nice extended adjustment controls) and like everyone else has said Jomac is more than happy to help. What a great asset to this site he is! Going for another game now!

I just noticed then(looking at the instruction card, who reads them anyway) , that Raiden DX uses three buttons (the third for rapid fire), this one is hooked up for two, did the operator just leave out the third ( rapid fire) button or is that just normal ?

Quite a few games i have played do that.......you can press the button to fire, but there is also another button that basically you jsut hold down that emulates the first buttons being pushed fast....i dunno....i guess it's for those people who love to press the button lots....lol

They also use it in the games where you can charge your standard shot....like if you press the button it fires normal but if you hold it it charges an attack, so they have the 3rd button you can just hold down if you want continuous shooting without the charging....if that makes sense....not sure if raiden dx is like that though
