mame rebilled questions

Recommended Posts

hey guys ive decided to mame Bill and was wondering the following questions

im looking at running oldskool games like galaga galaxian ect to suit the button layout and was wondering what would be the minimum requirements to run it or the ideal with out blowing out budgets

and was thinking a say win98 to keep it all simple too

"Oldskool" games such as galaga will run fine on a PII350 with 32Mb RAM under DOS running an older version of MAME say .36final. Not sure about Win98, should be OK though, maybe more RAM needed. You should be able to pick up this kind of system for free in the hard rubbish collection (that won't break the budget!). Spend your money on a decent keyboard encoder like an I-Pac. It is easy to upgrade the PC later if you want.

hey dave bidded on a cheap set on ebay and considering it as a first time setup being a noob at making a mame cab

from the ebay link

MOTHERBOARD IS INTEL CA810 SKT 370 THAT HAS ONBOARD SOUND, GRAPHICS AND 2X USB PORTS, CPU IS P3 667mhz SKT370 WITH HEATSINK & FAN, RAM IS PC100 100MEG, STANDARD FLOPPY DRIVE, AOPEN 50X CD-ROM, 145WAT POWER SUPPLY.

ram is easy and cheap to get on ebay and going win98. if the CPU can go bigger ill look into that later on

keep it simple till i learn the ins and outs. found a set of yamaha computer speakers and sub that will power the sound that i forgot was in the shed.

still toying with a TV vs arcade monitor either way im gunna mount it rotated due to the bezel being mounted permantly like that. plan is to play mainly 80's games

slowly getting my head around it now

so far ive decided to mount the computer on a shelf about 1/2 way up speakers mounted near the tops with sub on the bottom floor admin buttons will be accessed via the coin box door with power, reset, and escape inside there using car switches .Using the existing monitor stand inside which had the chassis mounted at a 90 degree angle to the monitor im making a shelf that will mount the side of the monitor onto and hopefully getting a free one from the father inlaws work

some new questions i was wondering what would be a ample video card to use in PCI

and with the powercords i was thinking of mounting a 4 way power outlet and plugging everything into that and having a lead comming out the back of that thru a grommet for safety in the rear panel

finally will it all need a fan for cooling?

will start a new thread as things get fixed up in the restoration removed all metal and repainted added new shelving and floor and tonite making new rear panels
