NBA Jam Sound problem. Help please!!

simo1412

Question

Is it the shoes?

That's what I want to hear, but alas nothing....

He's heating up! (Out of frustration)

Recently I bought (off ebay), an NBA Jam PCB with soundboard. The board came with the ribbon cable but no power cable, or sound pot. So I went down to Jaycar and then whipped up a power cable using an NBA Jam manual I got from the net. I also made the sound pot thing. But it's still not working.

The error message in the test mode states:

Warning! Unable to detect sound board IRQ. THis may result in errant sounds.

I have tried to check voltages and they seem ok, but maybe a bit high. Don't really know. (5.5V, 12.5-13V)

Any suggestions, please????

Sorry to reply late. Spent yesterday arvo/evening in hospital. Lots of fun. I downloaded the NBA Jam manual from crazykong.com and thats what i used to do the original wiring i tried. I don't get a 'ding' when i start up, but i do get about 7 'dings' in a row, then a pause and then 7 'dings' etc once the game screen comes up.

One other thing. From looking at the manual the soundboard model no is A-14732-40023 but mine is A-14732-40043. Dunno if this makes a difference. All the ROMS say NBA JAM (definitely not TE)

ALL IS GOOD AGAIN! I looked through the manual and compared it to the board and there was a component missing at spot Y1 (a 3.58mhz crystal). Looked through the bottom of the box the board was shipped in, and there it was. Now if I hold it in place the sound works. EXCEPT, and I dont know if this should be in a seperate thread but the players names are all wrong. Played a game as the Bulls and the announcer referred to Pippen and Grant as Gugglioni and Gill. Weird? I guess this has to do with the ROM's are they the wrong version for the mainboard? Is there anyway to check? Thanks to those who have offered suggestions so far.
