I accidently drove out of bunnnings the other day with 2 sets of ladders on my roofracks and totally forgot that i hadnt paid for them as I was buying heaps of other stuff. Dude didnt check and I didnt realise until i got home. Oh well :unsure didnt mean but didnt rush back to tell them either. Had it been from a smaller hardware I would of gone back for sure. Felt bad for a minute or so, then convinced myself they owed it to me after the amount i've spent there....

Anyone else had the five fingered discount?

bunnings are the devil, fuck em

but i would be a little cautious with the fact they have cameras all over the place (at least the ones i have gone to do) even though they wont find out till stocktake so you should be alright ahaha

we have to sit through those stupid ads all the time so as i said fuck em.

My opinion......

If they are stupid enough not to check everything you had and let you through without paying regardless of what is right or wrong or when you noticed etc they failed to administer basic security policies to protect there stock.

Not stealing in my eyes,I am a retail Store Manager with 150 people that work for me and if i dont ensure that my Dept Mgrs train all of there dept staff 100% in Safety,Security,Service etc and things go wrong well then the buck stops with me for not MANAGING or ADMINISTERING acurate training to ensure staff dont fall at hurdles like this.

POOR TRAINING in my opinion but agree wouldnt be broadcasting it across a forum for all to see but not your direct fault what has taken place.

My two cents worth.

Very true mate,If this was me that employee would get counselled and possibly terminated as he/she breached a major security breach which would be out of my hands anyway and up to HR.

Fuck 'em I say.. It wasn't intentional, you felt guilty - they screwed up.. I certainly doubt that I'd take them back.. Freebies is freebies after all..!

As for the cameras, very unlikely that Bunnings have rego capable cameras in store.. Would need a very good camera with a very good lens for that sort of surveillance.

my thoughts,

if you didn't mean it and it was an honest mistake that you can truley say 100% then I would do this.

When next in the store, mention to them that you mistaken drove off not paying for the 2 ladders, were they very much? :unsure

Then give them the option of charging or not for the 2 ladders. They may not even charge you but be prepared to pay since it was your mistak and not theirs in the first place.

Some people reward honesty even after you make a mistake.

Thats what I would do. Sometimes mistakes happen, lets be real.

I wouldn't bust my ass to taken them back and I highly doubt anyone in the same situation would. unless butter won't melt in there mouths. :lol

Thats me.

It seems to me it should be more a question of your morals and ethics moreso than which retailer you stole from or what security measures they had in place...

I agree Mark that it questions morals and ethics. Not all of us would be comfortable driving-away with the goods unpaid. Shooter isnt proclaiming his actions to be honest, but he is honestly concerned enough to air his thoughts with his peers.

BUT how many times has the little guy been screwed over? Retailers use tactics that prey upon the unsuspecting, activites that I call immorral or unethical. Put the colorful toys/lollies at kid level. Sell food to be packaged "lite" just because it weighs 50 grams less than the competitors package.

You can still be a good person and keep the booty.

2 - dont equal +

well, sometimes when you do something wrong and don't fix it, it eats you forever

it would me, feel like a theif.

So somebody steals something from a store, and because they get away with it the staff have to suffer? :unsure Fuck, I am amazed you have any staff left. There are criminals everywhere, I would hate to think how much stuff goes missing from big retailers like Bunnings, Hardly Normal, JB etc, and according to your logic, the people that should suffer are not the thieves themselves but the staff that didn't properly protect the goods? Man, I am so glad I don't work in Retail anymore if this is how you get treated.

@shootar75 - I reckon you should go back into the store and ask a staff member how much money you would have to spend in one transaction in the store to get 2 ladders for free, I doubt you would have come anywhere near the amount.
