Fish Tales
hopefully the High Court will have some sense and put an end to Rudd's bullshit They should make the fool taking this to the High court pay the costs. His little grandstand for 5 mins of fame is probably costing taxpayers 100's of thousands. :rolleyes
Ric
for the record, I am not getting anything from Rudd's spend fest however will again have to pay a truckload of tax because I try to save money. The "fool" as EB puts it has got a good point - rather than pissing away the surplus, Rudd should perhaps reward people that work by giving tax concerssions which in trun would encourage people to work rather than sit back and put their hand out. However, I guess 900 bucks won't go too far once a lot of these people join the unemployment queues
sleazius
hopefully the High Court will have some sense and put an end to Rudd's bullshit While I don't agree with cash part of the stimulus, I can't see the High Court stopping it as it could possibly call into question the ability of the commonwealth to raise other taxes. Being that we're now stuck with Ruddbucks, best thing taxpayers can do is spend it. So spend spend spend :)

The $$$$ are to assist to re-stimulate the economy and encourage people to spend. Think a little deeper here, the government will be gaining a large portion of the $$$$ back through the GST, Alcopops taxes (whilst still in), Fuel excises etc,etc..... Rudd isn't that stoopid peoples, he knew a portion would come back through taxes...
kitty
i think whilst it's a little unfair that unemployed ppl get two bites of the same cherry, wouldn't they be able to purchase things they wouldnt normally be able to afford - thus fulfilling the purpose of the stimulus package? I'm not complaining - we pay taxes, we can't change that, and i think we should just take what they give us - and spend spend spend! :)

kitty
it's not a perfect system... and it never will be..... but unfortunately you can't please everyone, especially when it comes to goverment decisions. someone will always lose out, and some dickhead will always gain..... i don't think it's the smartest idea in the world, but hey... i can't stop it, so i might as well embrace it :)

Why not spend the money on projects to keep jobs going? instead of a quick cash fix which most will be spent on overseas products. So were does the money go? not to aussie companies but overseas companies. :o its a bloody joke :( I pay $30K in taxes, i wake up at 2am in the morning doing over time to earn my cash. Why not reward hard workers?
terry007
All this talk of the "unemployed" getting it shows how out of touch some of you are in your ivory towers. John Howard would be proud of you. To receive this payment you needed to have lodged a tax return in 07/08. So you are inferring that those who have lost their jobs since July 08 dont deserve this? Why not reward hard workers? Because you don't represent the majority of the population. You're the most important segment of the population productively, but the least represented. Because everyone in this country is forced to vote, it means that the interests of politicians is aligned with people who contribute nothing, or very little. For your efforts you get some of this - :a2m: Enjoy :x

There's a difference between having a reason for being unemployed - redundancy, short term job loss, having kids, health reasons..... and an unemployed person that makes no effort whatsoever to get a job, and has no intention of ever doing so..... I disagree that if you work hard, pay tax and have no debt other than your mortgage you get nothing and have to pay tax on any "income" earned on savings whilst you can spend every cent you earn, get riddled with debt and then get rewarded by the government. A lot of this money will be put to mortgages and credit repayment, like the last economic stimulus package so this will go to prop up the banks. Instead of trying to buy votes Rudd and Swan should perhaps think about how they could actually get the economy moving providing incentives to employers and employees alike rather than paying money becuase you managed to successfully have sex. John Howard would be proud of you. Howard and Costello were a cancer to our society IMO (gotta say IMO to keep the pricks happy). They well and truly reamed the working man, and I for one was glad to see those crones retired to history. Rudd is giving some back that was stolen, and will it be good for the economy? I dunno but, I have cleared 4k of debts so far, and am very happy to have (which kinda defeated the purpose of the stimulus payment lol). ;) rather than paying money becuase you managed to successfully have sex. Hows the view from your shanty? :lol No need to degrade it into stereotypes imo. Personally I think Howard was as much a toolbox as Rudd is. If all politicians and their breaurocracy were swallowed up by the earth tomorrow, and replaced with a system that didn't reward cronyism, and lowest common denominator politics, I don't think anyone would be complaining. Sorry but I don't agree with upping my tax 10 fold to pay for Krudds mistakes. Why is the stim package 50 (exageration) times our GDP? when other countries are are only going 2.5% there GDP :unsure Hang on, I thought that the OZ economy was doing better then Canada, US etc etc :unsure So why such a big waste of TAX payers money? :unsure OOoo Votes, of coarse I forgot. He is really popular at the moment.
