Recommended Posts

Whats going on with my digital TV. When I turn my tv on and its :realmad::unsureprogrammed to channel 7 or change the channel to 7 sometimes the bloody screen freezes, cant change channels cant do anything. I have to turn tv off, cross my fingers and hope it rights itself ( usually does) because its a rear projection, takes ages to come back on,pisses me off! Is it my tv or a bad signal.!!!!!!!!

I sometimes get screen freeze when I change to Channel 111 on my Foxtel box, it either takes 10 seconds for the picture to show up or the screen goes green and I have to change the channel. I don't have any problems with the other channels so it is definitely a signal problem, it sounds like you are experiencing a signal problem too.

Is it a TV with inbuilt DTV tuner or a separate STB?

I have heard of some plasma TV's with DTV issues that needed a firmware update to resolve.

EASIEST SOLUTION...Watch another channel.

I know CH9 in Perth caused a few problems about a year ago. They changed the DTV signal slightly and although they claimed it was still within the official spec, it caused a lot of grief with various STB's. (glitching and locking up IIRC)

Maybe ask the local ASC (Authorised Service Centre) about that model?

The tv is an LG rear pro with an inbuilt hd tuner.Ive had the tv for about 4 years and the problem started about 6 months ago. How do I go about getting an upgrade.

I know some LG's got free firmware upgrades last year because of issues like this.

I think the Bravia's may have had a recall on them? (free update) I'm not in the TV game as such but I hear stuff from time to time.

hrm.. you got a link to any info on that? I got a 46" LCD X series. Only happened a couple of times but for the money I paid I would expect it to never miss a beat.

No link sorry. I just vaguely recall it being mentioned on one of the technician email lists I used to be on.

I also remember this from last year. It was specific to LG TV's and was generally occuring when the TV was on a particular station (I thought it was channel 9 though). It was fixed with a firmware upgrade.

Found a copy of the article here:

http://phorums.com.au/archive/index.php/t-228550.html

LG Electronics Australia has announced that the problem digital TVs which

froze during Channel 9 broadcast require a software upgrade to fix the

issue.

The company said in a statement that over the past 48 hours it has

"conducted in-lab tests and established the cause to be a software issue,

whereby selected LG digital TVs can intermittently lock-up or freeze under

certain signal transmissions."

The following TV model numbers, purchased after August are affected:

LCD TVs with integrated digital tuners: 32LC2D, 37LC2D, 42LC2D, 42LC2DR

Plasma TVs with integrated digital tuners: 42PC1DV, 42PC1DG, 42PX4DV,

50PC1D, 50PC3D, 50PB2DR, 60PC1D, 60PY2D

Rear Projection TVs with integrated digital tuners: 56DC1D, 62DC1D, 62DC1DA

CRT TVs with integrated digital tuners: 32FS4D

Only models purchased after August 2006 with serial numbers beginning with

608, 609, 610, 611, 612, 701, 702 or 703 are affected. Models with serial

numbers not beginning with these numbers do not require the update, the

company said.

LG advises customers with the affected TV models to register for the (free)

software update at the following website: http://www.lghdtv.com.au/softwareupdate.

Once registered, a technician will come to your home to install the

software.

Prior to getting the upgrade, if customers experience a further TV freeze,

LG says to turn the power off, unplug the TV at the wall power socket

(leaving for approx 20 minutes) and allow the unit to completely power down.

The company also said it is working with free to air networks to ensure that

no further disruptions are experienced by viewers.

"We regret any inconvenience and are now taking appropriate action by

notifying LG customers of the issue and the free, in-home software upgrade

to ensure that affected TV units are operating at the optimal level," the

company said.
