-5V wire for Mk2 and other games

joshwaan

Question

Hi Guys

I'm very new to learning the jamma system and all the wires.

I got my stuff from Jason in2assmusments good quality gear.

I'm trying to get MK2 to work, but it looks like it need's a -5 Line.

Does anyone know where I can get the lead for this harness.

Once I have this wire hooked up, is it ok to leave it plugged in when playing other jamma boards that do not required -5?

Thanks very much

Josh

Yes it is fine for games that don't use it. They assume that its there and dont connect anything to that pin.

Its mostly a left over from the era of the 2708 eprom (which was only 1K), circa 1970s. I am surprised to hear that MK2 needs it !!!

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Jason said I could solder it. I would not mind attemping this. what wire should I use does the connector to the PSU have to be a spade connector so that I can screw it in place?

Thanks

Josh

Spade connectors just make it easier, of course then you have to ensure the crimp to the connector is good, with crimps I usually crimp it first then flood the joint with solder leaving it rock solid. In the past on occasion I have just stripped the wire back, divided the strands into 2 groups and twisted them up, so the end of the wire is like a Y, then clamp that under the terminal - its hard to do neatly, and any loose strands could short out on nearby terminals, if you can do it neatly it works fine!
