Anyone who is thinking of getting mame going on their PC (Win XP), I recommend getting all the ‘bells ‘n’ whistles to make the experience a great one.

No roms link will be found here.

If you want someone to hold your hand through this process, go here:

Here are lists of sites that have all the essential Mame extra’s:

There are MANY MANY other front ends, DOS based etc that can be used, the way one can set mame up is almost limitless. I personally have the above on my PC and have DOS 6.22 running ArcadeOS in my cocktail cabinet. Works a treat.

Have fun... :)

My favourite site for MAME-in-a-cab is:

http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/

It has heaps of info, especially for folks wanting to use Linux, or real arcade monitors and/or modelines for accurate emulation.

I now use Linux in all my cabs, and it works a treat. Not so newbie-friendly as other solutions, but it gives much mroe control over what the host PC is doing, and makes for a much more realistic "arcade" feeling once working, I find. :)

I've been working closely with SirPoonga and HowardC (both from BYOAC) on trying to capture acurate control layouts and mappings. This has led to mamedevs correcting some of the shortcuts/hacks in some of the drivers. There's a few programs around like johnny5 and cpviewer which - when set up to show your control panel - can highlight which buttons are used for a particular game and what the buttons do.

As a side note: There are other bits and bobs which could be added on such as the torrent of mamevids (short clips of games in action). I am in the process of producing a set of mame intro videos for use within a frontend. I have generated over 2500 vids of mame and now going through each one to see if they work. I'm also cropping the vids to a 20 sec clip of action. These are all generated in the original game aspect and look really great in mamewah.

Cheers

PS would be good to see some of the aussies drop into the BYOAC chatroom everynow and again.

What about hyperspin?

tapping it in with my s4

I believe, without looking, there are several discussions about Hyperspin - it might be worth searching the site for Hyperspin - I know there are several people on here that use it as a front end. Alternatively, it may be worth posting your own new topic asking for assistance. This is a very old general topic on getting MAME installed (original post is about 9 years old).

If you don't need help and are simply mentioning Hyperspin, I'm afraid to say this topic is pretty much dead - and without a response (prior to yours) since 2008 it probably should be un-sticky-ed. Not even sure if Hyperspin was even available back in 2008 :unsure
