Fallout 3......luvin this!

Recommended Posts

Purchased Fallout 3 for the xbox360 yesterday. For me 100bucks (went halves with my son lol) is alot for a game. But its made by bethseda who made Oblivion so i knew I was likely to love it.

Only in the early stages so far (fighting for xbox time), but am really enjoying it. Its like oblivion (rpg) but set in modern times after a nuclear holocaust. If you like this type of thing check it out!

I've only learned in the last few days that Fallout 3 was a RPG, not a FPS, which has got me interested.

Do I need to know anything about the previous titles to enjoy the game?

I should add to that: I didn't like Oblivion, it was just TOO big and complex for the amount of time I can justify. Having said that, I'm an FP:RPG fan from way back, ie Ultima Underworld, etc... but in my old age my brain cant cope, so I play games like "Fable" on the xbox. :lol

I have been playing Fable 2 as well, its good but your very much locked into the story line. I found Morrowwind and Oblivion alot more open-ended, you have more freedom of choice.

I cant say Fallout 3 has as much "openendedness" yet... just havent got far enough in to say. Other guys maybe able to comment on that. I havent played the first 2 Fallouts, and its definately not a prerequisite to play number 3. About to go and spend a couple of hours on it now.

Being a Fan of Fallout i naturally got the PC version.

All you really need to know about the previous titles to "survive" in Fallout3 is the weird and cruel sense of humour the writers tried to emulate, everything important (game mechanics, effects of guns and drugs - is all pretty much explained)

Its smaller and shorter then oblivion, id try that for about 10-15 hrs just to explore and see pretty much the same thing over and over again - not so in F3

As far as openness goes - finished it 4 times and while the game never says "heres your quest - these are the different ways to do it" its more like "somehow get this done (if you want)" so its very much a case of play it and toy with the virtual peoples lives to capture the openness.

That being said u can just zoom through it and never see opness or even particularly hard RPG/thinkey puzzles.

now if only i could get the LIVE stuff to work so i can get all my achievements.....

Just found my first 10mm submachine gun....well I took down a raider that had it. These things are awesome....I love to let a mutant get within striking distance and use pipboy to target his head. I never get sick of seeing their heads blasted open, and the mutant flying overhead and landing behind me. The little cinematic you get of the kill is awesome.

Found small nuclear bomb as well, and am scared to use it lol

This game has got me by the balls at the moment. One tip with fatboy is stand way back, target with vats and piss ya self laughing when you see the carnage. My character has a contract out on it, my head is worth 1000caps lol I got ambushed and had to take out 3 talon mercs that were trying to collect on the bounty. Looks like I have pissed someone off bigtime, despite my having kept a neutral alignment. I rate the enjoyment of this game at 10/10.

My son is has an evil character....should see what he has done to tenpenny tower lol

The game is awesome..... but if you can, grab a copy of the Prima Game Guide for Fallout 3 as it gives some further insight into playing.

There is also a wealth of vids on youtube and ign.com which show you where some of the choice weapons and ammo are located..... well worth the viewing.

Again, an awesome game!

Actually I disarmed the nuke at megaton, but wont say who I masacered incase its a spolier.

Found my dad tonite, fuck the game gets absolutely hillarious at this stage!

If you get to be the lil guy with the mask...... lol thats insane!

I am starting to use my save games to take different turns in the story, and see what outcome I like best.

Thinking I will play this game through again, and take much different paths/choices. I dunno how close I am to finishing, or if the game even ends?

:)

Havent been to the minefield.....and didnt know of the junkyard either. Looks like I must pop in there! I do have a pet though.....my own brotherhood of steel companion! I am in the process of equipping her at the moment, and have managed to scavenge some enclave power armor and gear for her. About to do my power armor training as well.

:)

we're now playing this game relentlessly

I think a few of us are addicted to this Kitty.

ha, just found dad :lol wasn't quite prepred for that! how cool is this game, god i wish for more ammunition!

i cycle through all weapons using the ammo all up for that weapon then switching. its good in a way as it forces you to use them all, my fav on VATS is the laser rifle but in close you can't go past the mini gun for carnage. plenty of torrents around for those that want to try before they buy ;)

I scavenge alot for ammo, and because i need to keep a good alignment I cant steal it anymore. I dont use laser weapons because i didnt want to put points in it. I have maxed small weaps.. 100 points in it. My fav weapon for enclosed areas like in buildings or tunnels is the combat shotgun. For outside areas I use assault rifles, my 2 chinese assault rifles do better damage. Did you find lincolns repeater? Its the best thing i own, so to save its condition I use sparingly. Other than that I use scoped 44 magnum pistols, 10mm submachine guns, and miniguns (allthough I think minis dont pack enough punch). I dont use hunting rifles or 10mm pistols anymore, because I gotta leave something out of my arsenal to keep the weight down. Thinking of ditching the rocket launcher as well (its heavy)....up against powerarmor it kinda sux.....but then I havent spent points in big guns either.

I got the dog, and he is cool but a larger variety scorpion killed him....I felt bad so I went back to an earlier savegame and left him in one of my homes. Found a place today thats like never never land, its all run by kids, and they leave when they get to teens. This game never fails to entertain or surprise me!

:)
