RR2 Gear PCB

Question

Hi guys,

Long time reader, first time poster for arcade help!

OK, I was in the process of selling my 50" RR2 (Ridge Racer) game and whilst testing I found out that the gear box / clutch assembly was not registering at all (previously working 100%). Apon some very helpful advise from Staceyamusements I think I may have found a possibility as to the cause....

Behind the dash was a very small pcb labelled RR2GEAR with two molex connectors running off of it....A small silver ?? labelled VIGOR 8.000 must have had very very dry joints and had desoldered itself completely. Now Does this silver thing have an orientation and can anybody confirm this is a PCB which controls the gearbox / clutch I/O, what readings I should get on components etc just to test it properly?

Thanks in advance!

It's a crystal and can go back in either way.

Something else must have heated up as crystals don't get warm at all.

Having looked at it it was on an angle (ie bent) the same as the one of the caps behind it. I think perhaps it got knocked when someone had previously put the cage in / out. The pins had actually snapped at the solder level on pcb, thankfully it was sitting up above the pcb, so enough to resolder....

I've put it back into the game and gears / clutch now working 100% in the game. In test mode (switches) go on/off very quickly and I can't remember how they measured previously.
