MOSFET replacements for DE Magnet PCB

Martyj

Question

Hi guys,

I have to replace the P20N10's off my DE Magnet PCB (520-5068-00 Rev A)...I understand that the IRL540's are a known replacement but I've also read that the IRF540's are also suitable.

From searching on google, it seems that there are differing opinions (as always) as to which is the better replacement.

I have bought 3 new IRF540's but wont put them in unless someone has used these...Otherwise I will order some IRL540's online and wait a week or so...

Regards

Marty :unsure

I know nothing about your specific application but...

As far as I know, the IRL540 is the logic level drive version so is used in applications where it's being driven directly from a logic IC or mpu. Substituting an IRF540 may not be a good idea as it may be get turned on correctly, resulting in poor operation and possible overheating of the FET.

Again, I don't know for sure but I'd be wary of substituting a "non-L" version. To be sure, you'd really need to look up the specs of the '540's along with the original FET.

Yep, that sounds correct.

I guess I can only go off the majority which is the IRL540...I don't want to stuff anything else up!

**Confirmed IRF540's cannot be used without changing of gates etc...and are not suited!

IRL540's to be ordered...Thx guys
